Grandmother Lets Child Urinate on Plane Floor

A viral video of a grandmother allowing a toddler to pee on the carpet of a Beijing-bound plane has rekindled a debate over the Chinese government’s efforts to rein in anti-social behavior on commercial flights.

The viral video of an elderly woman helping her granddaughter pull down her pants and “go potty” might have been a cause for celebration if it had marked the child’s graduation from diapers to proper toilet training. Unfortunately, the video instead showed the grandmother allegedly helping the small child to pee on the carpet of a crowded passenger plane, much to the chagrin of fellow nearby travelers.

According to Shanghaiist, the laissez-faire potty training incident occurred on a flight from Zhengzhou Xinzheng International Airport (CGO) to Beijing Capital International Airport (PEK) this week. The video of the incident has become a hit on social media in China. Much attention has been given to the fact that the toddler in the video apparently did the responsible thing by telling her grandmother that she needed to use the restroom. The actual grownup in the situation, however, allowed her to pee on the floor. The little girl left a puddle of urine on the floor in front of the seat.

This isn’t the first instance of “responsible adults” permitting children to use inappropriate places as toilets on planes headed to Chinese airports. In August, a mother allowed her child to poop in the aisle of a Nanjing Lukou International Airport (NKG) to Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport (CAN) bound flight. The defiant mom told passengers who complained about the unpleasant mess that the plane’s “bathrooms are too small.”

Growing public outrage over the perception that these sorts of inappropriate incidents in the air are becoming commonplace has led Chinese authorities to crack down on misbehaving passengers. China’s Air Transport Association unveiled an “uncivilized passengers” list this month. The master list will be used to bar troublemaking passengers from flying on Chinese carriers.

This is not an isolated incident. Last year I was in Guilin airport and a chinese mother had her son urinate right in the middle of the waiting room for the airport terminal. The rest room was literally five feet away from them. A janitor came and cleaned it up and nobody said a word. I'm not sure what the issue is, but this seems to be a problem in China.

Let's not make excuses, I'm from a Chinese background and I think this is disgusting behaviour. This isn't cultural, it's just being an inconsiderate tw*t.
