Birth of Baby a Party Pooper for Ibiza-Bound Passengers

EasyJet Flight EZY2091 was delayed overnight from London Luton Airport after the captain’s wife went into labor and a replacement pilot could not be sourced.

The birth of a child is normally a cause for celebration, but for a number of easyJet passengers at London Luton Airport (LTN) earlier this week, this auspicious occasion was less-than-welcome news. On Tuesday, travelers on an Ibiza-bound service operated by the airline were filmed verbally confronting staff at LTN after being told that their plane to the party island would be delayed until the next day because the captain’s wife had suddenly gone into labor.

The incident affected those hoping to travel onboard easyJet Flight EZY2091 on the evening of Tuesday, July 25th, the Daily Mail reports. The flight, reports the outlet, had already been delayed twice when passengers were informed at 7:30 p.m. local time that this service would remain on the tarmac. Viral footage captures a number of passengers shouting and swearing at easyJet staff after having been told of the delay.

Some also took to social media to express their anger at the situation, with one tweeting, “@easyjet, we are waiting once again and it’s just simply excuses. This time it’s the pilot’s wife has gone into labor.”

Passenger Joe Moody told the outlet, “We were treated like no ones. No help by any easyJet staff – literally just left to fend for ourselves. Some of us had to even source our own accommodation of which we are now told will not be refunded.”

A spokesperson for the carrier told the outlet, “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY2091 from London Luton to Ibiza on 25th July was delayed overnight due to a crew welfare issue and unfortunately it was not possible to source a replacement crew member. The safety and well-being of its passengers and crew is easyJet’s highest priority and we provided all passengers with hotel accommodation overnight and meals as required.”

“We would like to thank the passengers for their understanding and apologize sincerely for any inconvenience experienced,” the spokesperson added. The plane eventually departed LTN for Ibiza at 3:30 p.m. local time on Wednesday.
