Stats

We had a lovely stay at the Amsterdam Marriott in mid-March 2016 for Mrs. Ruffles' birthday. Prior to our our arrival, I contacted the General Manager's office and they were very helpful in responding to and taking care of my questions and requests.

Room

We were upgraded to a newly renovated Junior Suite on a non-Executive level. The bed was very comfortable but we found the decor somewhat austere. There was open shelving for storing clothing but no drawers to store smaller items, so we needed to partially live out of our suitcases. Also, the mirror in the sleeping area was behind the rod where we hung our clothes so we had to push them out of the way to use it.

Without any carpeting or rugs, the hard bare floors tended to magnify sound. There was quite a bit of noise from the hallway, particularly with doors slamming shut in the early morning and occasionally with workers installing TVs in nearby rooms. We did appreciate the USB ports by the nightstands which allowed us to easily charge our phones and tablets.

There was a small seating area (hence the Junior Suite designation) with a padded chair and a small couch that proved difficult to get comfortable on. There was also a small round table that was perfect for holding a vase of flowers but not much else.

Service

We had excellent service from everyone we dealt with. All the hotel personnel (from Check-in, the Executive Lounge, Concierge Desk, and Restaurant and Bar) were friendly and professional and eager to answer all our questions.

However, for the first couple of days, we had a housekeeper-in-training taking care of our room. He failed to clear empty drink bottles from our room, did not replace all our used towels (we had asked for a couple of extras) or our used shampoo/conditioner, and missed cleaning our nightstands.

Bathroom

Two minor quibbles with the newly renovated bathroom. First, the lighting over the sink and mirror is poorly positioned so you're not adequately lit when using the mirror. Second, the makeup mirror in stored on top of the toilet and needs to be carried out of the shower room to the sink to be used (which requires a bit of care when it's damp from showering).

And a really minor first world problem, we were initially supplied with L'Occitane bath products but their replacements were Acca Kappa Green Mandarin products.

Dining

The Executive Lounge was great for drinks and snacks throughout the day. The breakfast spread looked extensive but as our LNF rate included the full buffet breakfast in the Midtown Grill we ate there instead. We had nothing but excellent service during our breakfasts.

Location

Extremely convenient location across from the Leidseplein where it's easy to catch trams and buses. Plenty of restaurants within walking distance and Vondelpark, the Van Gogh Museum, and the Rijksmuseum are close by.
