Great hotel with lots of history. Great breakfast, lots of unique suites, and great recognition of special occasions. Would absolutely recommend. Since we stayed here and the Park Hyatt back to back, some of this review will highlight differences.IMG_1189.jpg

Room

Our TA upgraded us to a junior suite at the time of booking, and it's a great one. Our windows opened to the courtyard so there was no noise at night. The suite felt like our little Viennese palace. So did the restaurants. The design language is completely different from that of the Park Hyatt.

The minibar was complimentary, and we received daily treats from chocolate, pastry, to fruits. We also received a full Sacher torte, courtesy of our TA.

Downsides:

1. Our king bed was two singles pushed together. We didn't complain.

2. All toiletries smell like chocolate, which might not be a bad thing.

3. Internet can be spotty.

Service

Service is mostly spot on - dinner reservations, airport transfer reservations, and everything was done by the concierge seemlessly. Sometimes we'd send a request to the concierge on our way out and it would be done minutes after we step out of the hotel. the bellboy and doorman, however, seem to be inside chatting most of the time and not outside holding doors for people. Service folks at breakfast were incredibly pleasant and attentive without being overbearing. It was not hard to flag anyone down either. We thought the service at breakfast was the best we've had in Vienna.

Dining

We only had breakfast here and thought it was great. We felt it comparable to the breakfast at the Park Hyatt, which we loved. There is a buffet of pastry, fruits, cured meats, cheese, sweets, and stuff, and you could also order eggs a la carte. Compared to the PH, there was a broader selection of cheese, bottomless Champagne (Sacher branded, but made in Champagne), a fresh juice bar, more sweets (including the Sacher torte), and in-house made jam and pastry. We liked the jam so much we bought a jar from the hotel.

The hotel bar at night hosted many locals (unlike the Park Hyatt) and felt very intimate. We had a drink there and loved it. No Instagram models, no arriviste, mostly older men and women.

Location

Pretty good. Right across the street from the Staatsoper, on a pedestrian street, 5 minute walk from Karlsplatz untergrundbahn, and 10 minutes walk from Stephansplatz.

Check In

Check in was very smooth, although the check in area felt pretty cramped. The walls of the check in area was adorned with important people who stayed at the hotel. We only recognized Michael Buble and Nic Cage. We're not sure how anyone else could be more important than those two. Our special occasion was recognized at check in.

Spa

Spa was almost all chocolate-themed things. My wife did not try any of it because she's not the biggest chocolate fan.
