Virgin Australia does not accept Amex cards any more (for cancel fees)

Sad to see that Virgin has "enhanced" the award-cancellation process and now refuses to accept Amex cards for the $60 fee.

Moreover if it's a partner award on Delta etc, Virgin Australia must to be engaging in some kind of tax-avoidance because you'll never get a receipt after a phone-cancellation, not even if you specifically ask for it. Am currently threatening them with a chargeback, so far still no receipt, just a pleasant email explaining that they are working on it.

having worked in retail for 20+ years, found that 99% off people who had an Amex card also had a Visa or Mastercard, BUT Amex seems to throw cards around, even to those who have a Visa or Mastercard which is maxed out. In Australia, many smaller retailers charge up to 3% to accept Amex, but many don't seem to realise that Amex via Paypal is usually cheaper than direct with Amex. Paypal charge the same merchant fee for Visa, Mastercard & Amex & some pay less than 2% or even lower thru Paypal.

Finally got the receipt after nearly 3 weeks, several emails to/from [email protected] and a query via the credit-card company.

It's a genuine Aussie tax-receipt showing $6 of GST in the $60 fee - so they'll have to actually deliver the GST to Australia, on this transaction at least.
