Is it possible?

To use VA Velocity points to fly SFO - AKL - ADL with NZ?

I have 140k points and need to come home for a wedding and thought this might be a good use of the points... Sadly my USA EST time zone makes calling the call centre a pain...

Anyone have an idea if this is possible and approx how many points? (30 Oct - 5 Nov)

Thanks in advance...

Yes, it's possible in principle, but it's more expensive than with VA, about 140% of the points. In Business, one-way SFO-AKL is 140,000 points IIRC. For details see the points table on Velocity's website. For availability you have to call.

Just beware, that since Air NZ ended long-haul upgrades for their own frequent flyers and replaced them with cash auctions, there has been no Business Class inventory across the Pacific at all, and what little Economy class trans-Pacific inventory and Tasman inventory there is goes when it is released, 355 days prior to departure.

If you don't book at 355 days, you are wasting your time.
