Upgrading to Y

I have a seat booked from SFO-LAS in a few weeks in Y. Would I be better served to wait until I get to the airport to upgrade to F or do it before?

Edit: My title is wrong

Waiting until check-in will be cheaper (long-hauls recently went up, but I think short-hauls are the same), but you risk F being full, or someone beating you to it.

You could keep an eye on your flight's seat map and if F starts filling, upgrade before check-in. It's pretty risky, but could save you some $$$ if it is still (close to) empty on the day of departure.

Maybe also check loads for the day of the week you're flight is.. perhaps your flight typically has a low load factor. What day are you flying?

That would have to be amongst the most peak times for leisure travel to LAS, right? ;)
