Funny

From what I've read. It sounds like the best way to do it, is to overnight it in regular service. Call when it says processing. Then pay to expedite over the phone. They received mine February 25th expedited. Still says processing. Smh.

Alacrity79 Mar 11, 2021 7:47 am

DP - mailed expedited DS-82 on 2/4. Notified that it was received on 2/18. Received passport on 3/10.

Nice!

Congrats. Was it overnighted back? Hopefully I'll get the same time frame. Mine started a week after yours. Hoping to get it in the next week

By the skin of my teeth (btsoyt)

Hello,

So, I booked a flight back in January to Aruba for end of March. I realized I need to renew my passport : here is my story

AFTER paying $350+ - $400 later:

Used Passport Expediting Courier (paid a fee just to have it arrive at company in DC so they can pop it in a USPS envelope to go to PA....... made no sense)

2/15/2021 - Dropped FEDEX envelope by following all instructions directed by passport expediting courier.
- Same day, 1 hour later got notification it was picked up

WAS SUPPOSED TO GET TO DESTINATION 2 DAYS from PICK UP DATE
Did it happen? Of course not because my luck... FedEx was backed up due to inclement weather across the nation

2/26/2021 - Arrived at Virginia
2/27/2021 - Arrived at Washington DC
2/28/2021 - Finally arrived at PA from Washington DC
3/3/2021 - Accepted, In Process, Check Cashed

NOW I am Freaking out because I paid for expedited service and the email i got said process time takes 4-6 weeks from date received......

3/4/2021 - 3/11/2021 -- Checking status online frantically and obsessively my trip is in 3 weeks
3/8/2021 - Called Passport Agency to try to get an appointment in person - no luck, rep says extremely difficult to get appointment
3/11/2021 - Call passport agency to get appointment (2 weeks before flight) was told NO APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE
3/11/2021 - Read this forum and used advice of those who contacted senate to push application through
3/11/2021 - Contacted State Senator
3/12/2021 @ 1:09 PM Dept of State sends an email with SHIPPING CONFIRMATION ---- WHAT????!!??!!

Idk how, idk who but THANK YOU!!!!!
Was a very stressful process, my passport renewal application was stuck in NY for 2 weeks and I was losing hope and stress eating.

Email says I should get my new passport in mail by next week.

Not sure if writing to senator helped the process but...... total time from submitting to receiving email was ::::: 3 weeks and 4 days...

Will update when I get my passport in hand.... not out of the woods yet....

What I've been told is... you're not supposed to use FedEx. Only USPS overnight. I did overnight and it was processing 3 days later. But no news 15 days later.

I'll send an email to my Senator. See if that helps as well.

Alacrity79 Mar 12, 2021 1:52 pm

USPS Priority Mail Express.

Drrandall1 Mar 12, 2021 2:04 pm

4 to 6

4 to 6 weeks means from the day you mailed it to the day you receive it.

Drrandall1 Mar 12, 2021 4:58 pm

Funny

Sometimes I wonder for those of us that check the status 10 times a day.... They purposely put our applications at the end of the line. Lol

angelincognito48 Mar 12, 2021 6:59 pm

Yess i know this but i went thru a courier service and they require you to use fedex to get the application to them, then once they receive it, they put it in a usps envelope which i mentioned in my post was veryyyyyyyyy pointless. My point was that I made a mistake in using a courier service... anyway! contact your state senate they will help you, my passport has shipped and i should receive it by monday. Good luck.

Drrandall1 Mar 12, 2021 9:35 pm

Good job

I email my first Senator. Hickenlooper. He said to wait til it's 3 days before we leave. Then email him and he can try to get it done in a day. Lol. Ya right

I emailed the other Senator Bennett today. We will see how he responds.

3/11: called and talked to a rep around 10 pm ET. Upgraded to expedited service ($60 charge). Was told my application was being processed in NH and with expedited service it could be processed in 20 business days.. Asked for a travel date multiple times but I don't have one. They seem to indicate that they could try to accommodate any upcoming travel. Declined to upgrade to faster mailing once issued.
3/12: 12 AM received email that application was received and I selected regular service . . . noted 10-12 weeks.
3/12: Status checker changed later that day to note expedited service and 4-6 weeks.
3/13: woke up to email from a little after midnight with tracking info. I should receive by 3/20. Status checker says same.

Have you tried calling the passport status number? They were very helpful when I called to expedited my application.

GUWonder Mar 13, 2021 7:14 am

I wouldn't be surprised if there is an upcoming surge in US passport application numbers as people anticipate the re-opening of more international travel.

It's their staff -- inclusive of interns -- who usually respond to such communications. It's not commonly the Senators themselves who respond.

Weekly

villox Mar 16, 2021 10:23 am

I mailed my passport renewal from NYC to PA for expedited delivery. Mailed on 2/25 USPS priority mail. Was supposed to be received on March 2, but it's been saying "delayed in transit" ever since. I filed a case with USPS but no response yet. As of today, 3/16, No status on the website and no checks cashed.

Does USPS sometimes not scan it in in? Is it lost?

Section 107 Mar 16, 2021 10:50 am

Renewal for Minor Child

Another touchpoint: renewing for 2 children under 16.

Since the kids are under 16 renewal must be in-person with both parents. Our appt was at the local post office. Took about 30 minutes to process, including taking two photos. In addition to the standard passbook & card fees with regular delivery service (not expedited), we were charged USPS processing fee for both, fees for two photographs, fees for photocopies of 7 pages of forms and documents (I think that should have come out of the USPS processing fee!) and, since paying electronically by credit/debit card - two fees to convert the electronic payment to two money orders. Will provide processing details as available:

Drrandall1 Mar 17, 2021 12:54 pm

Closer?

So I checked the status. Still says the usual. Recieved Feb 25th and it's processing . Overnight there and back plus expedited.
I finally get an email today March 17th saying received Feb 25th and it's processing. Good grief. Maybe this means they are finally starting it?

That's awesome. I'm hoping my email today saying processing really means approved. It's been processing since Feb 25th expedited

crescatfloreat Mar 18, 2021 8:57 pm

I received an hour ago the approval email.
This is my timeline, unfortunately perhaps not very useful to anyone anymore, due to my mistake on the passport photo size.

12/30: Applied for a renewal for a 5 year old, at the US Post office, not expedited.
1/5: Request received according to online tracker.
2/9: "Processing" email received.
3/2: Received letter dated February 11th and mailed February 22nd about the incorrect size of the passport picture.
3/3: Sent correctly sized picture via regular mail to the Houston Agency at an address in Sterling, VA.
3/18: "Approval" email received.

USPS marked it delivered yesterday, 22 days after mailing from NYC to Philly via priority mail. Now I wait to see how it gets processed.

That blows. That's as bad as mine getting there in 3 days. But still says processing for a month. Expedited.

kale73 Mar 21, 2021 10:58 pm

I received two emails late Friday night. The first was received around 9 pm MDT saying my application was approved and my passport was being made. A couple of hours later a second email informed me that it had shipped that day and that I should receive by 3/27.

Odd timing. I don’t think there’s really a crew slaving away in the “passport factory” through a Friday night.

crescatfloreat Mar 22, 2021 8:13 am

Have the USA updated their passport? Is the new passport like this?

A friend just texted me he has an appointment tomorrow morning in Miami for a rush Passport
he won't be able to make it, pm me if interested

MoDs hope this isn't against any rules.

Drrandall1 Mar 22, 2021 4:17 pm

Still waiting

I contacted my Senator Michael Bennett here in Colorado. They just called me 10 min ago. Super nice people. I sent mine expedited and it's been processing since Feb 25th. They told me the passport agency is really good about processing it right away when they contact them. I told them we leave in 1 week. Was told I should be fine. I'll let ya all know.

Question for everyone here: I have two US passports, one passport that expired in 2019 that had a 10 year validity, and another that expires in July that was issued by the State Department (frequent traveler) in 2017 for four years.

I can't get a conclusive answer as to which passport I submit for the renewal on the DS-82. Calling in doesn't get me a clear answer. I was first told that I need to submit my limited validity passport, and then was told on the same call at the end that it's the expired passport.

I dont know the answer (I suspect GUWonder might) but if you do not have any travel expected in the next few months why not just send both of them in? They will send both back to you along with your new passport.

New passport received today, March 23rd.
Issued date is March 16th.
It is the old model passport book, maybe because I requested the larger booklet.

Applied for kids and adults renewals on 3/4

Kids were sent by the post office and we mailed ours the same day.
Our passports renewals were delivered in Philly on Sunday 3/7 at 4:20 PM.

Kids showed up and are Processing on Tuesday with a received date of 3/15

Our's are nowhere to be found.

All I need is for them to scan and show them as received.

Anyone else renewing in Philly have this issue. The passport applications went from Charlotte, NC to PA

The Philly office received our's on 3/7 and its still NOT showing up on their site as Processing. No ETA and no idea how long it'd take. They haven't cashed the checks either.

wrp96 Mar 23, 2021 3:32 pm

Renewal sent in for expedited processing, mailed overnight 3/16 to Philly which per the post office really meant two days. Delivered 3/18, shows received and processing in system as of 3/19. Now to see how long it actually takes to renew.

Drrandall1 Mar 23, 2021 4:06 pm

Angry

Daughters passport application has said processing. My State Senator contacted passport agency to see what's going on since they won't tell me anything. Guess we were missing her dad's copy of DL. They never bothered to let me know. They mailed a letter to me which I wouldn't if got for days. Thank got Senator Bennett gave me this info right away. We emailed them the missing info in minutes.
senator Bennett just called and said passport completed. Overnight mail tonight. Whew!

Was it submitted with the application? The acceptance agent was suppose to ensure that was part of the application; that's what you are paying the execution fee for.

Drrandall1 Mar 23, 2021 8:10 pm

Nope

Frustrating

dvpatel Mar 24, 2021 5:42 am

Called and spoke to a couple of agents. They opened an investigation (so they said) and all of a sudden, last night, the applications showed up as processing on their website. Checks are being cashed today. They're pending ACH Hold as of this morning.

The email(s) came in at 3:03 AM this morning. Not sure if they're working this late. At 4:30 PM, they could not find any information on their end and said they have opened a case and someone would call us and if in 2 weeks we see them received/processing, we're supposed to call them.

I ended up calling CIBT (who did the second passport handling) to see if I could get some free advice. The suggestion that they gave me was that I should send in my older expired passport versus my still valid second passport. His suggestion was that if I were to put down the second passport (valid, three months remaining) on the DS-82 form then I would have to surrender both passports. However, if I submitted for renewal of my older passport then I wouldn't have to surrender my other passport.
