any other easy hits?

I only have one hotel program with 60 points. Spent some time figuring out how many hits I can get with paying next to nothing and not buying things I wouldn't for the Grand Slam....so here is a list of what I have in mind:

Credit card usage (will be receiving CC next week)
Dividend shopping mall
Skymall
download toolbar
share miles ($10)
buy miles ( i do plan to buy 80 to 100k with the bonus miles)
Dividend dining (will have extra 1000 miles as I just joined today, waiting to dine after September 15, 2011)
Biscoff
Office max
Emile
Ereward
Magazines ( would order anyways)
Supershuttle ( need it for my trip in december so If I pay now, hope i can get hit, if not, oh well)
Thanks again (GC for pizza joint i frequently visit)

Need two more for total of 16 hits...any suggestions...thought of U.S.A today for $20 and perhaps a cheap hotel stay for weekend trip

doubt I will be able to get 20 hits unless i am going to buy things I really don't need

wc4572 Sep 4, 2011 6:55 pm

Check on the USA Today. I thought that would cost more since US said certain partners couldn't be cancelled until 6 months after GS. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Would moderators mind merging this thread into another -- FAQ thread, perhaps -- as you see fit? Thanks.

USA Today is $20 for 4 weeks... and US Air has stated that any subscriptions cancelled before May 14, 2014 will cause all miles earned in GS to be forfeited. ALL.

So USA today is a minimum $120 hit. Subscribe with caution or desire to read. Do not subscribe just for a hit.

metoo Sep 4, 2011 10:07 pm

Thanks for the info. I don't plan to pay $120 for one hit.

swap miles using points.com. Many programs offer sing-up bonuses and you can transfer them using points.com. AFAIK there is no minimum required. Signup for choice privileges account and earn points using top guest. You can transfer 250 points (5 check ins) to US air and get 26 miles.

for second hit order some flowers using FTD or someone else.

virtuo0 Sep 4, 2011 11:24 pm

I just realized choice privileges may not work as it will be considered as hotel transfer hit. Try Virgin america using top guest instead.

Another option is sign up for frontier early return which is giving 1000 sign up bonus and sign up for emiles with frontier to get another 500. Frontier needs min 1001 miles to transfer.

metoo Sep 5, 2011 8:02 am

I already have emiles and I was thinking of using it to redeem for U.S. Dividend for one hit. Can i also do one for Frontier and count it as another hit?

Went to frontier..doesn't say anything about 1000 bonus miles. is there a link for this.

Googled frontier bonus and it is only 500 miles , 1000 bonus miles expired end of August. However, I didn't know so i was given the 1000 miles bonus.

or make it much easier and do 22DM ->1 Frontier (to get to 1001) ->184 DM
or 10 DM ->4 Asia ->1DM

Ouch, definitely missed the $30 processing fee + tax fine print until you mentioned this. Augh. But thank you!

I did 5 AA miles -> 1 Frontier.

One of the promos for Amex's "Link it, like it, love it" program on facebook is $10 off a $30 or more purchase from 1-800-flowers. I plan to use that to get a hit.

metoo Sep 5, 2011 11:34 am

Thanks all. I will definitely do the swap with points.com.

Does that count as a coupon and not give a hit?

bryanwallace Sep 5, 2011 7:27 pm

has anyone managed to find a cheap supershuttle??

I don't see how it would. The $10 off is in the form of a statement credit a few days after the purchase, so US Air has no way of knowing about the $10 off.

metoo Sep 5, 2011 9:01 pm

Supershuttle is the name of the company. Cost is determined on start and finish point (airport)...If you really just want to pay very little amount for a hit, drive your own car close to the airport so when you book, the distance will be very close and it may cost a lot less than if your house is far from the airport.

bryanwallace Sep 5, 2011 10:16 pm

yeah-cheapest icould find at lax is 15$ for a trip to the car rental place there..
do discounts work and do you actually have to ride it?
cant see it in the t and cs - i think a lot of people got this hit last yr without riding

Alumino Sep 6, 2011 4:34 am

SuperShuttle: Last year, many used DFW to DFW Hyatt
--Didn't have to actually ride, just "intended" to ride
--Cost was like $5-7 or so

CORRECTION: was $12, but there was a $3 coupon floating around last year, so it was $9 door-to-door. So to speak....

lkar Sep 6, 2011 8:21 am

According to my notes, I paid $12 for no show DFW supershuttle to the Hyatt last year.

I think there was one other location that gave credit for a no show. Others tried other locations and did not get credit for a no show. DFW seemed to be the only one that was reliable for a no show, but, YMMV.

pinniped Sep 6, 2011 8:34 am

OK, I'm not a huge US Airways guy but I'm seeing this Grand Slam stuff all over Flyertalk so I figured I'd take a look. I downloaded Silverhalide's cool spreadsheet. (Thanks for that! :))

I could with minimal effort achieve the following:

- One post for US Airways Visa. (I already have the card...got it for a signup bonus.)
- Six hotel stays. I have a recurring trip where I tend to end up in very low-cost Marriotts (sometimes $50 CY's): could hit the 2,000-mile bonus promo and do Fri-Sat hops to finish it in three weekends.
- Six rental cars.
- Five hotel program conversions.
- DM Dining
- DM Shopping
- E-Rewards
- E-Miles
- 1800flowers.com
- FTD.com
- Teleflora
- DM Toolbar
- Mags for Miles

Total cost to me:
- One free National rental day, although I have piles of those and won't miss one more.
- Probably about $100 paying above street value for flowers
- If I can actually get the 2k promo at Marriott, I'll call the entire hotel points sacrifice an even trade.
- Maybe an hour of my time making the purchases, fiddling with hotel accounts, etc.

45,000 DM miles for not too much incremental cash out the door.

Any flaws to my logic (e.g., a chance that these Marriott 2,000-mile bonuses won't post or won't count as hotel hits?) or other easy hits I'm missing?

I won't rule out hitting some of the other shopping partners...maybe OfficeMax plus a couple others. As long as my "cost" is simply shipping expense, not buying some strange product I'll never use.

Just checked SuperShuttle.com and the current un-discounted price from DFW to Grand Hyatt DFW or DFW Hyatt Regency is indeed $12

pinniped Sep 6, 2011 9:06 am

I'm surprised they even do that run. Aren't those hotels physically IN the airport? (Or one of them anyway...)

Yup. Both are.

pinniped Sep 6, 2011 12:00 pm

One update to my own post earlier about hotels: the Marriott promotion seems to be limited to a very thin list of 270 hotels out of their portfolio of 3000 (or whatever).

Fortunately, it still works for me - three of my regular Dallas hotels are on there. They tend to run $75-90/nt., not the $50 that some of the cheapest Courtyards do. And to be safe, I'd probably also visit the lobby bar to ensure my total folio is $100 (200 miles)...just in case it's the stay that counts as a hit and not the 2,000 mile bonus that posts later.

i thought that if you set your earnings to us air miles to get the stay hit then you wouldnt get the 2000pts marriott bonus?

It's a 2k US Airways mileage bonus. I think you have to be set for air miles both for hits and for this promotion.

I recall someone found a $3 discount code and posted it, so my actual cost was $9.

Office Max hit

I'm trying to do a trial run on making an office max purchase. I can't seem to find anywhere to input my DM #. I've selected my items and have my shopping cart ready to "pay," if i was actually going through with it, and nowhere can I find a DM # field. I used the link directly from the DM partners page. Can anybody help? Thanks!

Same. You appear to be correct.

It works for me too. Thanks for this link! I have a conference to go to at a Marriott this fall. Should earn me about 4000 miles after that bonus. Thanks for the link!

Looks like we need to put together a list of minimum spends for each non-hotel/car rental hit. Haven't seen a comprehensive list yet.

Where did you see a minimum mileage requirement for car rentals? I thought the only restriction that differed from last year was you could not have multiple rentals on the same date.

I'm not quite sure what your definition of "comprehensive" is, but I've compiled a list of cheap hits in post #1 of http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/2011-...er-thread.html.

I didn't see any minimum. The only restriction is that one can only get one hit per day :td:

Flyerfrog probably just overlooked it. In all the excitement, it's easy to miss some stuff! :D

Does the Share Miles count for both the Share-er and the Share-ee? I seem to recall that last year it did. Therefore, if I share from +1 to my account, then he gets a hit and I get a hit.... ???
