Work-around: Here's how you find R space and booking codes
(Mods: This is a new, non-discussion thread designed to help FTers find R and booking code info for UA flights. This is so people don't have to sift through dozens of discussion pages about the removal of booking code info on UA's site)
All: Please feel free to add to this. So far, this is the info I've been able to gather based on current discussions.
Here's how you find R or booking code information:
R Space:
1. http://mherdeg.scripts.mit.edu/is-there-r-availability/
2. To find R on UA's website: Detailed info here with graphics:
http://boardingarea.com/blogs/freque...-availability/
Booking codes:
1. In KVS, use SABRE. Go to "filter" tab, then "availability" tab and enter your flight info.
Please feel free to add if I've left something out or if the programmers amongst us create something new. Thanks!

Thanks, but the current website already shows which flights have R class (as the second link show)
Not as great as it was before, but easier than filling in the two code words!

KVS and EF work but aren't free. A free option, although clunky and obnoxious to use, is the FlightStats availability tool at http://www.flightstats.com/go/Flight...vailability.do

I am familiar with this and use it often, but R class is what we (I) are after.

You still can search for R availability through the "advanced Search" feature when you make a flight reservation:
Checking the box that says "MileagePlus Upgrade Award". It will give you a yes/no answer if there is R availability for the number of passengers requested. It is more cumbersome but it at least gives you the information if there is R availability.
However, it doesn't show how many R are available. But you can figure it out by adjusting the number of passengers and seeing if there is still availability incrementally.

I've also updated the ridiculous captcha'd spaghetti-code tool at http://mherdeg.scripts.mit.edu/is-there-r-availability/ to support this feature. Let me know if you see any weird quirks.
Just to mention it again: UA, if you have any problems with this, please let me know and I'm happy to turn it off.

Why would you have to specify J class? Wouldn't picking Business as the cabin be enough?
