Fall/Winter '09 767/747 International Equipment Changes to 777! [Merged]

Just got a schedule change for my Nov 25-Dec 2 itinerary. I was so looking forward to the 763 lie flat seats direct from IAD-GIG. It was scheduled nonstop on a 763 but was just changed to go through GRU on a 777 now. Damn.

I know they were running a seasonal nonstop to GIG on 763 and it looks like they are changing some things in regards to this route. Oh well as least my UG are still confirmed.

still sucks though b/c the seats are nice, I just did JFK-LAX-NRT and return NRT-ORD-LGA in F and enjoyed it a lot!

The title of this thread actually made me chuckle. A couple years back, who would have been upset about a 777 replacing a 763?

Every year I look foward to this flight. Guess I will keep flying GRU-ORD instead.

Last year they cut short GIG-IAD due to the poor demand, why a 777 this year?

I believe the OP stated they switched him to go through GRU on the 777 not replace the 763 with a 777, hence, one would infer that the seasonal flight would not be operating at the time of his travel.

Not sure what UA is doing, I had checked yesterday on a possible booking in November and it showed the IAD-GIG flight at $1808 for H. This was actually down a bit as it was 1935 previously. Today, the direct flight is gone and the IAD-GRU-GIG on 861/860 is $2,172.70 for M and H fares.

Looks like the seasonal 763 IAD-GIG now starts up on Dec 17.

PVG-SFO Eqpt Change from new config 747 to old 777 in Fall

Boo... now that SFO-PVG finally gets the new config 747 this fall, soon after they take it away and replace it with an old config 777 and now 1 more hour of air time since this aircraft is slower!

The good side is if you are flying coach you get in-seat IFE :S

I dont know exactly what date this changes... my late Sept. flight is still 747 but my Nov. flight is 777.

You are not the only one who got shafted by UA. LAX-NRT also changed from new 747 to 777. I wonder where all these 747 will end up flying?

I'm not surprised they're swtching to 777s on some of these routes. The 747s often go out ½ empty, particularly in the premium cabins.

I would not be shocked if the IAD-GIG non-stop did not return this year. Most likely a result if the additional 7% international capacity cuts UAL just announced.

Flying? Probably just taxi'ed every 30 days at VCV. The above mentioned equipment swaps would account for the final 2 744's that are yet to be grounded.

Given the competition on these routes, i.e. airlines with real lie flat, premium will still go out 1/2 empty.

But it's a smaller (i.e., less expensive to operate) half.

Thanks for the heads up. I am going during this same time period and just went to .com and seen the schedule change. I was sad to see the equipment change as well.

I wish United would send out an email with schedule changes and allow you to confirm them on .com rather than have to rely on checking on your own (I don't think I have ever been contacted about a schedule change).

Look the positive side, at least you will be flying faster (0.84 Mach 777 vs 0.80 Mach 767)
