Seating assignment on NZ codeshare
I searched through the faq, and didn't find the info I am looking for. Sorry if this is a rookie question ...
I have an upcoming trip booked on NZ (SFO-LAX-AKL-ADL out, MEL-AKL-SFO back), and the initial SFO-LAX flight is a code share with United (UA operated). I cannot do the seating assignment on this leg through NZ; is there some way I can do that through United? I am a 1K, so would like to get access to E+, or even an exit row (even if it is just a short flight). Thanks! |
You need NZ to give you the UA PNR (which is different from the NZ confirmation id) -- after that it is straightforward. Don't know if NZ has this problem or not -- but in many cases the seat assignment will not be reflected back on the NZ itinerary.

Back when I flew the CNZ deal, I found NZ to be very accomodating with information and assistance. Just call them and get the UA PNR and then call UA and get your seat assignment changed to your preference. Considering the brevity of the SFO-LAX flight, I don't know that I'd go through the effort, but YMMV. Welcome to FT. :)
My experience on the CNZ deal with mixed confirmation numbers was that the systems didn't talk to each other. I had to call NZ to confirm my seat assignment in C for SYD-AKL after UA gave me the NZ PNR. |
Thanks for the welcome!
Agreed that it's not worth a lot of trouble choosing a seat for the short SFO-LAX flight, but good to know the deal for the future. And I wish I was in C on NZ -- premium economy for me. (I guess my next challenge would be to figure out how to upgrade myself on NZ -- although I am pretty sure my discounted PE fare is not eligible) |
LOL, the CNZ deal was a $10K pricing mistake on a full C fare from the US to AKL on UA/NZ. I ended up in WLG. Upgraded to F on UA overwater. Whole bunch of FT'ers did that deal. I'll bet if you search it, you'll find a lot of info on interoperative dynamics between the two systems. People were making adds/changes right and left :)
Here's the thread: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/milea...80-00-all.html Enjoy your trip! :) |
Welcome to Flyer Talk pmgsfo :)
Premium economy on NZ can be upgraded using airpoints dollars, airports elite u/g vouchers, by paying the fare difference, or by using *A mileage upgrade scheme. |

Best way, and the way to do this with one call is to call the 1K line, as they will be able to look up your UA PNR. They should be able to look you up by flight date and time, and they should be able to get you your E+ seat. |
A quick call to ANZ got me the PNR, which allowed me to see my itinerary online, but I could not select a seat. A quick call to the 1K help desk took care of that.
(I also checked out using miles for a Star Alliance upgrade -- as most of you probably know, turns out those only work from full fare (Y, B) Economy to Business. Would have to pay $700 each way to downgrade myself ...) That CNZ deal was amazing -- a mileage run or*y ... |
