Different return dates, same PNR: possible?
I would like to book a UA ticket with a companion, same destination and fare code but different return date. At least that way the companion can benefit from my E+ access on the way there. Is it possible?

All passengers on a single PNR must have the exact same flights, dates, and fares.
But, your companion can still sit in E+ with you. Just book the itins and call reservations and have them moved up next to you.

No. Flights have to be the same to be on the same PNR.

They don't have to have the same fares, but need to have the same booking code. One can have a QA fare, and another can have a QE14NR, but they must be out of the same bucket (in this case, Q.)

Sort of...
OP's handle notes that they are a 1P, so yes, even though you are not on the same PNR... on the flights that you are on together you can bring 1 companion into E+.
However, in the post the OP says:
If it was EPA and not a premier level... YES they must be on the same PNR to get both into E+.
