United.com functionality

Hello fellow United.com users,

Like many of you, I'm still mourning United Connection. However, since we are now stuck with United.com, I thought it would be a good idea to share with the United.com developers some of our suggestions for functional enhancements.

Please post on this thread your ideas for how United can make United.com better. Once we get a good amount of posts, we can consolidate the results and shoot them off to UAL.

Please allow me to kick things off with 3 suggestions of my own:

1) Show YTD Premier segments on the "Mileage Summary" page. Just like on the My Mileage Plus emails.

2) Show qualifying miles accumulated for Million Mile status on "Mileage Summary" page (like DL and AA)

3) Provide an online mileage calculator (like CO)

4. Ability to see all UA reservations, regardless of where/how they were booked, as long as they have your MP number in them.

5. Ability to change seat assignments online.

Originally, I was just going to accrue MP miles on some Delta flights, but then decided to go ahead and get a Delta SkyMiles number. I was amazed and very happy when I could do both of these on the delta site. Besides, 4 should be easy since they already allow it through the Palm UA2Go interface.

The ability to see more than one fare for a proposed itinerary and select that fare (which may relate to a specific class of service, or a connecting flight rather than a non-stop). Unitd Connection allowed fare selection.

I agree with this one 100% and have pressed UA on the topic several times. The party line reply: "Forcing pax to buy on the spot is a marketing decision. Without this feature we would not be able to offer the deep discounts they have come to value from our online product." Of course, I find this logic a bit puzzling because: 1) other carriers have no problem holding reservations, 2) web fares are rarely that impressive, and 3) the majority of fares available online are identical to those sold through other channels. The one saving grace in this policy though, is the provision that allows you to cancel within 24 hours of booking (I have no problem with the extra paperwork this creates for them).

Two more:

Ability to accept vouchers.

Senior Fares. What I absolutely can't understand is why United Connection had no trouble pricing United senior fares - and so can Orbitz, Expedia, etc., etc., but ual.com can't. Bizarre!

I would happily use ual.com, but they keep trying to make it as inconvenient as possible.

I agree that allowing us to book reservations without ticketing MUST be added. But even short of that, allowing one to create an itinerary so that one does not need to rekey it while you watch the price just has to be added. Even Northwest lets you do that!
