True Flyer bonus..!!!!

First please don’t flame me, this is just a discussion. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I really don’t see what makes the true flyer bonus a super bonus??

I think UA marketing people are too smart that they got most of us to say WOW to that promotion.

I don’t see any WOW in that promotion at all. It is nice, it is great but not WOW

Let me explain.

What if United announcing the true flyer bonus this way (instead of the way they did it) ..

“all mileage plus members (does not matter if being basic,2p,1p or 1k) get double miles where ever United flies from may 1 till Dec. 31 “

does it make difference? If it does, please show me how. If it doesn’t so it is an ordinary bonus.

Just think of how many times UA offered double miles last year, this year to different destinations?

And United still gonna offer double miles next year. So I think this is a redundant promotion. And not true flyer promotion.

However, I think the only flyers that get benefited from previously announced United promotion from the period of may 1 till Dec. 31, will benefit the most from the true flyer promotion. For example .. I took flight back in may from IAD-HNL around 9000 miles RT. There was a promotion of 5000 from the US( main land) to Hawaii that I got advantage of, and now I am going to get an extra 2500 miles (I am premier) due to the true flyer bonus.

Also I think none-US M+ members will benefit the most from this promotion. But again none-US M+ members didn’t suffer as much as the US members.

So as I said there is limited ELIET flyers that they gonna benefit the MOST from this promotion.

I am not saying it is not a nice and great promotion .. all I am saying it is not super and they shouldn’t call it true flyer bonus.

I believe that flyers ( all flyers not just the elite ones) who suffer in the bast 4 months ( and still suffering) deserve more than just an ordinary double miles promotion

I have a feeling that I am missing something .. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'll gratefully take those extra 60,000 miles now coming my way.

THANK YOU United!

So, I certainly don't think this is: "a redundant promotion". (??! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif !??)

This is NOTHING like any "ordinary bonus" I have even heard of. They are typically are very route/limited duration specific. It runs for EIGHT MONTHS AT TRIPLE MILES for any 1P/1K in that May 1 onward period. It also runs for another 3½ months.

It is applicable to EVERY fare type, including e-fares, any of us can probably purchase (other perhaps than Priceline etc) and is applicable for flights WORLDWIDE, via ANY hub or UA routing, to MP members residing worldwide as well.

IMHO it is a supreme marketing coup. AA are ruminating this weekend whether to match it to keep their high traffic flyers loyal, and THEY do not have union hassles!

This will not only keep most high tier UA members flying MORE than they planned (like me!) as WELL as attracting many high tiers across from other airlines due to the immense points potentially on offer. Many high tiers already are at top level with miles to date with AA/DL/NW etc, so why not snaffle this too in last few months of year?

Some business person who right now has never in his/her life flown UA can also qualify for those triple points if they fly 50K in the 3½ months before year end, or fly the applicable segments.

It's one thing to give away all those bonus miles, just wait until you want to redeem them! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif

kokonutz Aug 20, 2000 10:43 am

True, this bonus is not unprecedented. e.g., last spring I was beneficiary of a 100% additional bonus.

Perhaps we are all saying "wow" becuase we are somewhat pleasantly surprised that UA is actually accepting responsibility and doing something about it.

As I've said, there are other things I'd RATHER have UA do, but I am still pleased with the bonus miles...

KSA_USA Aug 20, 2000 1:56 pm

Yes, kokonuts. Thank you. That’s the word I was looking for “not unprecedented”

This spring United had a promotion of double mile promotion “fly United between may 15 and July15 2000 and we will reward you with DOUBLE MILES for each and every flight. This offer is valid for travel to any of over 220 United destination within the US,P.R and US V.I”

Last year there was a double miles to all flight departing ,arriving or connecting at IAD .. similar promotion at DEN .. 2 years a go. Usually Double miles to Europe each fall ..etc…etc…etc..

Every airline is offering double miles.. even blue jet (LOL)

And that is good but not super (I think)

United wants to do an extraordinary promotion for their true flyers, right?

I don’t think double miles are extraordinary.

Let us Look at what Delta Air lines did to celebrate their new route from JFK-LAX. Or to the West Coast (I don’t remember exactly what they were celebrating) .. They introduce a 12000 bonus miles. Right?. So that’s what I call it extraordinary. ( that’s ATLEAST 18000 MILES FOR AS LITTLE AS $200.. for PM that would be something like 36000 miles.)

kokonutz Aug 20, 2000 3:59 pm

Right. Double Dulles, how could I forget?

I'm really hoping for something more, particularly for 1Ks. Time will tell.

Really UAL is trying to piss off the leisure travleler to gain a higher proportion of leisure travelers. Only business problem that they may face is wher the economy turns down that they will need the leisure travlers to fill more seats.

the scribbler Aug 20, 2000 7:16 pm

And there's no guarentee when, if, things at UA will get back to "normal".

transpac Aug 20, 2000 7:25 pm

Yes, you are definitely missing something.

Free miles.

No flaming here, just a comment that though I have been through lots of hassles with United over the past couple of months, this "freebie" does appear to be a recognition on UA's part to help fix the ill will.

Secondly, the really frequent travellers ARE the ones that should be given bonuses. THEY ARE THE ONES WHO HAVE HAD THE MOST HASSLES!!

... and how about those Frequent-Flieres that made a lot of real UA miles and 'suffered' as anybody else (but used another StarAlliance-ff-program for mileage credits)? On many long-haule-flights UA competes with other StarAlliance-members and a supplementary incentive could influence the desicion-making (of status fliers attached to other StarAlliance-ff-programs) which StarAlliance-Airline to choose.

ffhound Aug 21, 2000 6:56 am

See what happens when you give one segment of your market a freebie and nothing to the other?

You're just buying resentment.

cheers Peter

Rudi do I loosly translate this to mean all the UA flights you made and used your LH Senator # for, and kept telling us several 100 times, how much smarter that was, was not as smart a deal as 300% bonus on coach, had you used your MP # and you now want to change horses somehow, or at least get an adjustment?
