ozstamps: you are (as usual?) 100% wrong when you start questioning my intentions/strategies and above all my luck with ff-programs.

As I posted in several threads in 2000 I focus on remaking 1K this year (Senator is assured until feb-2002 already) and so most of my flights in year 2000 go on my UA-account.

My upcoming rtw in sep-2000 does most of the segments on UA (SIN-NRT-SFO-ORD-SJU-ORD-SFO-CDG). So, egoistically and luckily as I (always) am, I profit. But trying to be 'fair' to unlucky 'other' StarAlliance-Gold-members I present their case.

And in general I am not favoring LH's miles&more-program - I am (and do) for making the most from switching between the two programs (UA:MileagePlus, LH:miles&more) making 1K every second year (in 2000 for year 2001) and requalifying Senator again in 2001 for after feb-2002.

OK it appears my loose translation was incorrect! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

So why should UA "reward" anyone who flew an OPPOSITION carrier on routes they themselves service on UA metal in a UA plane? Commercial suicide. Or stupidity!

Are you saying UA should give me the same 45,000 (triple) points I get flying Air New Zealand SYD-LAX, instead of the 15,000 I now get on AIR NZ?

Why would they? They'd need to be nuts.

no ozstamps; I base (again and again) my arguments on a StarAlliance-flier making a lot of real flight miles with/on United (but getting credit on his ff-account with another StarAlliance-airline). He gets 0 'delay-bonus'-miles. There are many of them.

ozstamps Aug 21, 2000 9:44 am

Rudi I don't know how this translates into German but I am sure there is a similar saying you have:

"You can't have your cake and eat it too" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Not meaning YOU in the singular, but EVERYONE in the wider sense. United made the rules. Just too bad for anyone who did not put in on their MP account if they flew UA metal. They will not change the rules methinks.

Rudi, I agree that a lot of *A fliers won't get any benefit out of this "True Flyer" bonus. I have a colleague who credits all his miles to SAS. During a recent trip to the U.S. he suffered some pretty serious delays/cancellations while flying on UA (UA metal, domestic {intra-} U.S. flights. So he will not see any of this bonus. (Looking back he could have joined, and used, his M+ account but who knew what would happen!) I can only hope that UA will make some reparations (in this case through SAS) to these partner fliers?

*S/*G members should definitely be included in the bonus for their UA flights. I guess the only problem is working it out with all the members and whether the member carriers want the bonus to be applied to their FFP. I guess UA is not going to like this idea since $$$ is being sent to another carrier.

Folks, don't be fooled into thinking that this bonus miles promotion is the sum total of United's offer in response to the summer of discontent. I think there is a whole lot more that will be coming our way...I don't want to speculate in this public place but I for one can think of MANY little gestures that will go a long way to smoothing ruffled feathers.

kokonutz Aug 21, 2000 12:07 pm

Quiet Lion recently taught me that Casinos are much more generous comping "soft money" (meals, hotel rooms, limos) than "hard money" (airfare).

I don't expect UA will be as generous with the hard money as they were with the soft...

ozstamps Aug 21, 2000 12:19 pm

Hard money, soft money, how about "DISCOUNTED money" .. this might be their next deal when the Friendly Skies are union free:

Thanks, but
1) I don't fly for free (no status miles)
2) If I did fly for free it certainly would not be in coach...

Yes, there was no mention in CO promo of Bus/First. I'll ask them that. Maybe those are tightly guarded!

Quick Question and I apologize if this has already been addressed. It is my first post but I read the boards whenever Im on the road.

As 1P or 1K, are we essentially getting QUADRUPLE miles this summer? Namely, 100% bonus for 1P/1K status; 100% bonus miles for the Olympics Promotion (Moments), and now another 100% promotion for United's poor performance?

This will be the case from July 1 to August 31, right?

transpac Aug 21, 2000 4:28 pm

roppongi, As a 1K (I admit I don't know what a 1P is, or what they get for benefits) I am expecting essentially 4X UA M+ program miles for qualifying trips 1 Jul - 31 Aug. 1X for the miles flown, 1X for the 1K bonus, 1X for the Olympic bonus (requires a R/T according to the rules so I don't assume this will be given for a leg/open jaw etc.) and 1X for the 'True Flier' bonus (any/all UA HW 1 May -31 Dec). And, .25X for C!

To tell the truth though, I sign up for all these bonuses but rarely follow-up to see if I got them. On my most recent printed statement from UA M+ (Summary Period: 15 May - 30 Jun) I just had two entries post for "UA Active Transcon Offer for C Class" for 3,750 miles each, from 6 Aug '99 and 23 Aug '99. Who knows what the heck these were for? "Boston Bonus? Or this one: "Star Alliance SQ NH and UA Promotion" for 2,000 miles. (I've never been on NH!) Who knows where these come from, but they are always welcome.

pattius Aug 21, 2000 5:13 pm

Yes but remember that the "true flyer bonus" is based on flight miles in year 2000--the bonus miles received in Jan 2001 for this promotion will be based on what you qualified for by flying in 2000. And that applies to everybody, ie, a general member starting out the year 2000 who ended-up flying more than 25,000 miles will get the 25% bonus on miles flown between May 1 and De 31 (and end-up qualifying for Premier as well, obviously). Conversely, a 1K member starting out who only flies 25,000 miles will also get the 25% bonus on miles flown between May 1 and Dec 31 (and also be dumped back to Premier).

ozstamps Aug 21, 2000 10:30 pm

Yes that seems to be the theory, but I have printed out the exact wording and table on the UA website, as a case could be made strongly for a variation on this, until they amend what they themselves have "announced" ... if they have not already as the "interesting" wording glitch was pointed out to them last week. Planning future flights to Dec 31 "in good faith" based on original website is a powerful argument IMHO.

Transpac .. be interesting to see if you get ALL those .. what a year for your account!
