So according to this thread, what would be the best way to bring some cans of beer along from MKE to Hawaii. I was thinking of something along the lines of 24 or 48 cans depending on how many bags I check. Is it possible to show up with something like a 24 pack of cans of Miller Lite at the airport with a name tag attached and just check it?

Anyone that goes to the airport and checks 24 cans of Miller Lite (:p <<barf emoticon) destined for Hawaii should be IDB'd on the spot! ;)

And to the others thinking of checking Yuengling to Hawaii??? Yuengling is OK (far from great) but there many microbrews available in HI that blow its doors off. Drink local and support the local brewconomy!

Oh don't get me wrong, I am all over the local brew. mmmm Kona Firerock :D but its the "grass is greener" effect, they can't get it over there and remember it from a visit to the Mid Atlantic. Just hooking some old shipmates up.

Won't be able to bring beer this trip due to other issues.

When I travel back and forth from BEG, I use a Pelican case with cutouts for a 16 bottles on one side and the other half I used for miscellany. On the way to BEG I carry a couple dozen Johnnie's beefs that I've vac-packed, and on the way back it's beer and slivovitz or other rakija.

Never had a problem with baggage handling or declarations.

Somebody sent me.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Delta Airlines one
year ago,
you will have $49.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in AIG one year ago,
you will have
$33.00 today.

If you had purchased $1,000 of shares in Lehman Brothers
one year ago,
you will have $0.00 today.

But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year
ago, drank all
the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for recycling
refund, you
will have received a $214.00.

Based on the above, the best current investment plan is to
drink heavily
& recycle. It is called the 401-Keg.

Knowing our group we would take that $214.00 dollars and buy a transcom on UA and get 15,000 miles.

Burst out laughing, that's pretty good.:D

However, the math don't quite add up, assuming that the beer was purchased in non-deposit states (meaning a Redemption Value was not accessed), and the current redemption for a 12 oz bottle/can is $0.05 to get $214.00 would be 4,280 bottles/cans. So, taking $1,000 divided by 4,280 bottles, it would only be $0.233 per bottle of beer. What kind of beer is it; I think cheap stones costs more than $0.233 per bottle.

That's one that I'm particularly fond of too.

Well that's a good reason... So long as you're sure to check a case of Firerock on the way home ^

Several years ago I lived in both SIN and ORD commuting back and forth every few weeks. My fav soft drink was Pepsi One which could not be bought in SIN. On most trips to SIN I would pack two 24 can cases in my luggage. I packed them either in a box or a duffel bag. I put some Styrofoam around the cases for cushioning. Never once was a problem with loss or damage, but this was Pepsi not beer. If it were glass, I would use this or use wine shippers and pack 2 bottles to a slot with bubble wrap separating them.

My friends in SIN were used to 20KG luggage limits and they thought I was crazy to pay excess baggage charges until I told them about the 3 x 32KGs that 1Ks get.

And you should read this
For all alcoholic beverages:

When placed in checked baggage, glass bottles must be in a Styrofoam-type insert that is molded to the shape of the bottle and completely encloses the bottle
If you don't pack properly it might not be allowed on a plane. I have read, but don't have the reference, that if a bottle breaks and does damage to someones baggage that you are responsible.
