Basically offered a worse deal to us than we already had, so I walked away. Haven't flow UA international since.

Wow . . . this surprises me. Five trans-pac in (I assume) paid F? Something should have come out of that.

Maybe if you had discussed some sort of challenge (you mentioned you could bring other travelers in from your company), see how many folks really flew UA in the next 90 days, etc. to get GS. Seems like UA could have found some way to accomodate this situation.

A few years ago, after several years as a Premier Exec, I was given 1K status after less than 80K EQM all on the cheapest economy fares I could find. I did not ask for it, I just received a 1K card in the mail.

I called and asked if it was a mistake...they said it was legit and was granted by the marketing department.

No it is not. They do not hand out 1K nominations for corporate contracts.

They sure do. A friend of mine flies exclusively AA, and has complimentary 1K status based on the company he works for - all of their consultants do. It's one of the very large auditing/consulting companies. I personally think it is a smart move on UA's part, since these people typically do a lot of travel.

I think you're mistaken, he probably has 1P. Our United rep insists that 1Ks never have been given out for corp contracts (only 2P, 1P, GS). Can anyone chime in who has personally been comped 1K (and I don't mean someone's "friend")?

Anyone comped GS is by extension comped 1K, because as of this year, all GS are 1K.

Sure, you can go the route that GS isn't officially a MP status, but saying that they give out 1K for corporate contracts since GS also get 1K benefits is far more confusing than the route you were going for.

My comment was referring to MayorMcKnife's post stating that corporate contracts get a certain number of GS nominations, and that 1K nominations can be requested as well. He clearly differentiated GS and 1K nominations. I was also referring to pmax's post about asking for a GS nomination, and then a 1K nomination. Again, he clearly differentiated a GS nomination from a 1K nomination, so I don't think people on this thread are confusing the two. There are no 1K nominations.

Let me clear the air on my post and experience. My company gets GS nominations, but I'm not high enough on the food chain to get one yet. So I requested an early 1K bump earlier this year to our UA rep based on UA EQM expectations. I was declined due to his disbelief that I would make it based on my 2007 EQMs. (OT - I was mixed DL/US/UA last year and I will make 1K in the next few weeks - yeah, take that UA, I flew you all year!). The UA rep acted as if he contemplated the 1K bump. So I concluded it was a possibility and suggested the OP ask. But maybe it wasn't possible and the UA rep didn't want to admit it.

Exactly the point I was making above.

Also get a Chase sig VISA card for 5K of those 15K miles you need.

Actually you only need 10K BIS if you buy premium fares - like 1 Z trip to Europe.

how do you get those 5K? (I know, I should RTFF, but I'm lazy)

And 3P, just for the record. I know, big whoop, but that's how I got mine despite having a job that requires no travel (and not having any elite friends/family members to nominate me).
