Comped to 1K? Not a chance.
20k already this year? That's not very much. They may comp based on your Plat status but the 20k isn't even on pace to make UA equivalent to Plat (PremEx) |
Get the Chase Mileage Plus Platinum Visa card and you will earn 5000 EQMs after your first purchase.
Here is the link: http://www.firstusa.com/cgi-bin/webc...cont&mkid=6SJS Then you need 10K more miles so a trip to Europe should get you there. Also keep in mind that ticket purchases made only at United.com will earn up to 5000 EQMs( with a ratio of 1 EQM per dollar spent), but this does not apply to United tickets purchased via phone reservations, as only United.com purchases qualify for this. |
UA used to offer 1K. I got mine 5 years ago? I had to fly 20k and they gave me 1k. I did the 20k in Jan and I have kept 1k status for the next 5+ years.
|
No they won't and thank goodness! If they start status matching 1K off people asking UA to assume that cause they flew a lot in 6 months, it will continue, would have me think twice about status with them. The DEQM (1K lites) was bad enough...
BIS or nothing, start planning a trip. |

I didn't start travelling for work until May of this year when I took a different position. As it is I will be close to achieving 1K with only travelling for 8 months of the year. If I don't make it, but get quite close, is there a way to petition for 1K status next year based on my travel pattern in the last 8 months of the year? I would guess I will end up with 85,000+ EQM's.
I qualified for 1K in June this year, and would recommend that if you're able to do a mileage run to make 1K, seriously consider doing it, especially if you're typically flying routes where delays and travel problems are frequent. My experience during irrops as a 1K have been a huge improvement over 1P, and flying through ORD every week it has been a big deal for me. |
:confused::(
What? UA comps 1K all the time. Just not for the average boob who sends in for a status match. |
Only way I can see making 1K in less than flying the 100k miles it takes is MedicineMan's example - you fly 80-90k EQMs in full-fare tickets in a short period, and I'd tend to think a UGS invite would be forthcoming (and of course, UGS are all 1Ks).

If you work for a very large corporation that has UA as its preferred carrier and is given a certain number of GS nominations to distribute, you may ask them for a 1K nomination too.
I too was bumped up to 1K this year before I reached 100k EQM. I was at about 96k when 1K showed up online, but had flown all of that on high yield international, and received GS about a month later. |
The platinum credit card can actually get you 20,000 points if you spend enough:
5,000 bonus at first purchase 5,000 EQM for $5,000 in united.com spend 5,000 EQM for spending more than $35K during a year 5,000 EQM for trading 50,000 choice points |

I was prepared to switch my company's international travel to UA last year, and had already flown 5 trans-pacific round-trips in first on UA when contacting them. I had almost 300k status miles on Star Alliance alone that year. I asked for GS comp, said no. Asked for 1k comp (though I probably wouldn't have done it anyway), said no. Basically offered a worse deal to us than we already had, so I walked away. Haven't flow UA international since.

Yes, there is a big difference between a 1K and a GS.

For some people that's true, but to say they don't give 1K to corporate contracts is very misleading.
My comment was referring to MayorMcKnife's post stating that corporate contracts get a certain number of GS nominations, and that 1K nominations can be requested as well. He clearly differentiated GS and 1K nominations. I was also referring to pmax's post about asking for a GS nomination, and then a 1K nomination. Again, he clearly differentiated a GS nomination from a 1K nomination, so I don't think people on this thread are confusing the two. There are no 1K nominations. |
