I'm looking at flight 907, ORD-SFO, in mid December and .bomb lists it as a "dinner" flight in C class. Will it really be just a complimentary BOB?

Interesting. The 5:35 PM departure on the 15th has a "snack" while the 5:25 PM departure on the 19th has "dinner".

I just did a test booking on united.com, and UA 907 shows dinner on a 757 in "Business" (really domestic F on the continuation of an international flight) on both dates - October 15 and October 19.

On Dec. 19 (not Oct), it is listed as a 3-class 763.

Okay, so you would get a snackbox in Business on a three-cabin airacraft then. Y does not have fresh meals for purchase - only snackboxes, so that's what the FAs could offer you.

No More Premium Food in Domestic C?
I can't believe I haven't come across a hot thread on this topic (or maybe I just missed it). On my transcon flights this week the meal in C was a snack box or "fresh choice"--the exact same items offered in coach--only they were free. Even the flight attendants were embarassed and encouraged every passenger to write to UA about it.
This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel for UA. They did still serve a meal in F, but if all C means now is a bigger seat then they have seriously devalued the product. Given that a lot of C passengers are upgraded 1Ks and 1Ps, I see this change as a direct slap in the face regarding their loyalty. Virgin America is looking better all the time... |
There were quite a few threads/posts actually back when they announced it. I believe that Oct. 1 was the official start of the new "service". Which is as you said...free snack box...basically turning any 3 class domestic plane into kind of 2.5 class? yes, bigger seats and free snackboxes...but only F now gets the whole deal (linen, meals, etc).
I had a flight ORD-DEN on a 777 late September...I upgraded to C just to experience domestic "C" one last time before they rolled out the new staleness...the seats are still worth it IMHO.... |

True true. The funny thing is, something about the food in the airplane turns us all into foodies...I mean, I have always thought that even the best stuff is just average if you compare it to the equivalent choice non-air? ie...a filet mignon at 38000 ft. even if Charlie Trotter created the recipe...is not even close to a "B" steak at any steak shop...yet we all clamor for it. I'll admit I do like to eat in the sky, especially the little warm nut ramikens ;) but in the end I am with mahasamatman...I upgrade for the seats and legroom. And a free drink occasionally:D

This is only on flights with three classes of service domestically. This is 16 flights daily in United's entire network, no more. The rest are two-class cabins where, if you're upgraded, you get a standard hot meal, as usual.
I realize that the F seats on those planes aren't as nice, so you essentially have a choice if you're able to fly on either a two- or three-class cabin aircraft: international comfy seat, or domestic F seat with a hot meal. I think a lot of people believe it's wayyy more than 16 flights a day. |
