What will United do to people without USD on the TATL flights? Also, what happens when the travelers get a meal going over, but nothing on the return? Are credit cards going to be allowed, especially for those without USD, or are the flight attendants going to become currency exchange people, too? Think of the additional revenue................

they have been working on a cashless solution for a while now - I believe its supposed to roll out to all flights shortly

This is not a problem now since the TATL BoB is rescinded. There is still the cash problem with buying drinks and as GoingAway mentioned that problem should be solved. I would think that most travel savvy people carry some US currency when heading to the US.

Agreed... However the fact that UA may have listened to their dearest customers may not roll back all the bad publicity and harm it may cause to revenue.

I believe senior executives have to be cautious with these moves... they're paid for and expected to be conservative protecting revenue. Announcing, having press releases all around and then having to step back does not speak very highly of them, other than acknowledging they pay attention to comments, afterwards.

This is already an issue on UA flights going to Mexico and Canada.

Either you have USD to pay for the meal or you're left on your own.

No credit cards accepted, no foreign currency accepted, it's a shame.

Wow - a ray of hope that the suits might have listened. If this change is official it would be nice to know if it really was customer feedback, a drop in bookings, or both. I did note from one of the posts that this was referred to only a "rollback" on implementing any change.

OK - if the official word comes out, and UA actually does a "mea culpa" and thanks their loyal customers for their feedback, then we have to keep it up folks and get the suits to keep listening to us. We need to what we can to get smiles back on the faces of they employees so we can enjoy our trips. The customers have to remain the "vocal majority." Tilton and his lieutenants still have a lot of making up to do, not only the employees, but to us customers.

They do have a lot of making up to do. We all need to keep talking.......so they listen.

My sister booked a ticket on Saturday, and she shared her itinerary with me. Did UA just not program things correctly? I couldn't get the page to bold/color the type, but the return flight from Rome still shows the BOB.

From http://www.uatimetable.com/United.pd...+timetable+PDF (page 159)
0945 1510 UA967 763 0 LS 10:25
Above 10/26 - 11/1
Was the itinerary a TA or other web site than UA? It may be out of date.

JoeTravel Sep 1, 2008 1:41 pm

It was from a travel agency.......that has Apollo, the same system United uses. I just checked with a friend of mine who is an agent and the following is showing to start:
SU 26OCT ROM / WAS - 5:00 HR
1 UA 967 FCOIAD 945A 310P LS- LS- FG- 763 MNE 10:25 0

(Note that the LS is for First, then Business, and F and G codes for Economy and are the purchase codes.)

United still shows meals at united.com for North American flights. I don't think they have changed united.com yet.......unless they are going to change their reservation system.

Thanks everyone for complaining to UA! I am so happy this appears to be over. :D

Going to Europe we take the Euro, USD, the British pound. Prices set in relation to 6USD. Makes it tough for making change and counting liquor, but until we go cashless it has to be done. Going to Asia we also take local currencies, not sure all or just some. I saw a purser carrying an exchange rate sheet the supervisor's had given him.

Not sure about Mexico, but we most definitely take Canadian (probably shouldn't take coins, just paper). Same as USD, 1 for 1.

Glad to hear they did not make this change. I was shocked last flight from China when they noted Economy Class passengers Alcohol is $6.

The non-booking of UA will continue until domestic business gets regular meals back as well. AA, AC, SQ and LH are getting all my business.

And what routes are you flying domestic C on AA and getting domestic C meal service? (other than LAX/SFO-JFK)

I fly the afternoon ORD-DFW flight on the 777 and as an elite (Platinum), I can book a C seat without using any upgrade instrument. I can waitlist for F. Although there is no meal or free drinks, the fact that I can get a C seat for free (if available) is a big plus.

Liz/other FA's -- can you confirm the news that "this is over."? What is "this?" Is it just on international flights, or on C in NA, too? Is the trial on the DEN-IAD with fresh food BOB gone, now, too? Thanks as always for the insight!

More to follow but officially rescinded.
