First Class Ticket to Canada - RCC Access?
I know I might get flamed for this.
I checked the FAQ. I actually called the RCC lounge in SFO. They offered different answers. Please bear with me. Bought myself a First class ticket to SFO. I have no status in *A. A friend decided she wanted to fly AC home around the same time. I'm flying SFO-ORD-YOW. Both segments in F. The SFO-ORD flight is the redeye. So, I guess, the International first class ticket is for the following day i.e., I'm in SFO on a Tuesday night but have an Internaitonal ticket for the Wednesday (ORD-YOW). 2 Questions please: 1. Will I have access to the RCC in SFO before the flight to ORD based on the F class ticket to Canada the following day? 2. If yes, may I guest my friend in before her AC flight? If anyone has any comments / obsevaitons about the club they'd like to share, that would be great too. I know it's nothing special but looks like I'll have a few hours to burn after my GFs flight departs. Thanks. |

If you can afford to buy a F class ticket to CA, you can afford to spend $50 on a day pass :)

So it looks like the date difference stemming from the redeye flight means NO access. The line SFO F ORD F YYZ : Access in SFO and ORD seems to apply to me but the fact my international segment is on the following day cancels the "same day ticket" requirement. Are they flexible with the same day vs. red eye distinction or do they go by the letter of the law? Thanks |
Since your flight out of SFO is a redeye the night before the "official rule" requiring a same day ticket is a bit confusing. You should have no trouble getting into the RCC at SFO by showing your onward ticket to Canada the next morning and your F class BP SFO-ORD. I did this exact thing recently flying SEA-LAX then taking a redeye LAX-IAD and then a morning flight to Cancun. I was allowed access to the RCCs at SEA & LAX (which were both the day before), and at IAD. All they did was scan my IAD-CUN boarding pass at each location...didn't even look at the domestic ones (but I'm 1K so perhaps they didn't need to).
Not sure about the guest..worth a try. |
I've found them to be pretty lenient. Explain it's the redeye and that it's the only possible connection, smile, and they might (probably will) let you in.

do i now have access to RCC? You`ll be allright mate. Lots of pretzels and fruit waiting for you.....:p Ooops-----I guess I wrote a bit too fast. I reckon Shareholder down below has your answer.. |
Canada is not considered "international" so your ticket won't get you into the RCC at either airport. However, if your friend has a Business Class ticket on AC, and your flight number is an AC one on the boarding pass in Executive Class, you both could get into the ORD RCC on the basis of AC's permitting its business class customers to use lounges wherever the originate. However, SFO won't work for you.
Since you have a First Class ticket, why not change the ORD-YOW flight to AC business class? Then you can use the RCC at ORD, though not sure if you can bring a guest. |

This seems to be in conflict with the policy stated here:

Then that's a change. It's been reported for years that Canada is not considered international to UA & thus folk have been turned away from RCC & IFLs.
Cheers. RCC - absolutely have access as F or * Gold. |
