RCC - absolutely have access as F or * Gold.

iluv2fly is correct, although I've seen a few RCCs try to say no. But of course the IFL no way, no how, no access shows that UA considers Canada domestic even if you need a passport to enter it ;)

Cheers.

ever the helpful one

...uh...is any of this moot? Would any of the proposed RCCs wherever along the route be closed at the time the OP would be attempting to use?

Note that there was a question by another poster this morning about RCC access, so recent posts are in support of that itinerary, not the OP's. :)

Hrm... RCC should grant access, I entered RCC using upgraded First multiple times for Canadian itinerary, and never had a problem. Even *G flying to Canada has access I believe.

Once, I was flying SFO-ORD-YYZ, the confirm upgrade only go through for SFO-ORD and wait listed for ORD, but ORD RCC still let me entered base on the first seg!

United really need to clarify it's domestic/international policy for Canada :D

in RCC ord-yvr

Hey guys curious why the woman here at RCC didn't give me the drink coupons. Said I have to be travelling over atlantic/pacific??? First class to yvr dammit!

lucky9876coins Aug 29, 2008 2:20 pm

The agent is correct. You need to be at your transoceanic gateway.

Agent was correct, I believe you need to leave region 1.

Then that's a change. It's been reported for years that Canada is not considered international to UA & thus folk have been turned away from RCC & IFLs.

Cheers.

The Canadian Government does not consider a flight from Canada to the USA as International. That way they can charge the "domestic" "gst tax" to each ticket. Flying anywhere else but to the USA and there is no "gst" charge. I fly from YVR to SFO all the time, always on an economy tickect with E+ and being a PE I am able to use the Maple Leaf lounge in Vancouver and the Red Carpet Lounge is SFO on same day travel.

I flew LAX - Ontario,Canada two weeks ago today on AC. When I checked in my suitcase in terminal, the agent said "Feel free to visit the lounge" or something like that. (I was surprised, and only later figured out it must have been due to being *Alliance Gold + International flight.) I was sort of keen on seeing one of these lounges and went up to see if they would let me in. There was a sign on the *Alliance lounge saying "We're closed now, go to the Red Maple Lounge next door." Unf. it didn't open until 5:30am and my flight left at 6:00.

I did not try the final test of actually entering the lounge, but the gate agent thought I would be able to.

If you are flying AC from LAX and are *Gold then YES you have access to the Maple Leaf Lounge run by Air Canada. If you were flying United From any US airport to Canada and were *Gold then you have *NO* Access to the Red Carpet Club or International First Class Lounge (if in F), So as a *G sometimes it's better to fly AC vs UA if you have no RCC membership.

There is no Star Alliance Lounge at LAX T2, the other * lounge is the Air New Zealand Lounge - that does NOT open till 1PM, so you have to use the Air Canada lounge as it's the only operating * lounge in Terminal 2 LAX that time of the day.

Canada IS considered international for lounge access:

CUSTOMERS WHO TRAVEL TO CANADA MEXICO ARUBA AND
ST THOMAS WILL BE TREATED AS INTERNATIONAL AND
CUSTOMERS WILL HAVE ACCESS TO THE RED CARPET CLUB
and that fact has been reported via the profile for as long as I've been on FT.

Incorrect. Canada is considered international for the purposes of lounge (RCC) access.

This is patently untrue. I avail myself of the luxury that is ORD RCC in Terminal 2 weekly. This has been allowed for years and years now, and I refer you again to this post.

Canada > US on UA in Y -- Access is granted to RCC as Star Gold

I travel every week from YVR to EWR. I only upgrade depending on the type of aircraft (row 6 and exit rows on a A320 and row 6 on A319 has more room than first class).

When I'm in Y class I have access to the RCC in DEN, SFO and ORD because I am flying international as noted in the definition in the post two above.

I agree with the other posters who have mentioned that Canada is not considered International for fare constructs etc, however, the definition of "International" for RCC purposes does include Canada.

Same thing when I worked in IAH and RDU in 2006 and 2007. Access to the RCC in ORD/DEN because I am a 1K (Star Gold) flyer.

Further, when I am traveling in F to/from YVR, when I'm in the RCC I ask and receive the access card to have free WI-FI while in the lounge because of the international definition.

Happy Travels!

United is pretty clear and good on this point with respect to lounge access, nothing to clarify. AA on the other hand...
