I think that you need to get someone higher up at Orbitz. Even though Orbitz is partially owned by UA, UA will disavow any responsibilities for tickets not purchased through its own venues (the bomb or the phone or the non-existent city ticket offices). If your tickets have the wrong names, you could face problems getting on the plane (since your ID must match your ticket) and even if somehow you got through on UA, the TSA won't let you through.

Orbitz is not owned by UA at all.

True, UA and five other major carriers invested $145 million in 1999 to start Orbitz up, but Orbitz is now owned by Travelport.

just curious, why did you buy the tickets through orbitz? :td:

Call United. Some carriers will let agencies update/correct first names. United is not one of those carriers, so only they have the capability to fix this. Whether they will is another matter entirely.

Get it fixed.

My wife had an extra character in her first name on a CA ticket. In advance we had a struggle to get a note in the PNR.

Afterwards, we tried to get the UA 50% miles. First, nothing happened.

Fax produced a rejection letter citing masmatched name.

Followup produced rule change well after ticket purchase and bare three weeks before departure.

Bottom line - get name fixed if you expect miles.

i think the best way is to refund the ticket IF there is still the same fare bucket. UA allows 24 hr full refund policy. So, you can buy it again with correct info. I am too sure though if Orbitz allow you to refund.

No, you won't be able to obtain a 24 hour refund if you bought through Orbitz, I don't think. Another reason to buy through United instead.

Let's not get too pushy with the sales pitches.

Any ARC travel agency can void a ticket the day after it was issued without penalty. Yes, this gracious benefit that United grants you is not a favor at all.

Orbitz has done a huge push on Orbitz TLC and the traveler's experience. You may have received a few of their remaining US Call centers or one overseas. I'd ask for a bit more help from Orbitz and also call UA and see if they can offer any asssistance.

Thanks for the correction. ^

Nicknames?

How about nicknames being on the ticket instead of legal names? I mean nicknames equal to CHRIS vs CHRISTOPHER, ALEX vs ALEXANDER, PAT vs PATRICK, or MATT vs MATTHEW?

I have already booked the ticket, and we are within 24 hours, so I could cancel and reissue, but if it isn't going to be a problem, I won't bother.

You will also pay a service fee. The Travel Agency will waive the service fee if they made the mistake.

gomike Feb 22, 2009 3:19 pm

Yeah, you are the one that made the mistake, sucks but be prepared for the worst and do not be mad at Orbitz
