LMAO. :D

LOL. Just had a similar situation in PHL. The boarding announcement was made for GS, First, 1K, etc and the line on the red carpet started to form as they did not open it for some reason. My wife and I (both 1Ks) were about 6 people back when some moron came pushing (really pushing) his way thru saying "I am a 1K, I am a 1K" over and over. The guy in front of us stepped in front of him and said very loudly "..so is everyone else standing here sport..get to the back of the line".
The whole line broke out in laughter at the fool.:D

I blurted out. "Well I'm a 1P. And a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. And you just broke in line ahead of me and probably dozens of 1Ks."

Anyway, I was at IAD a few weeks ago. Very long line at red carpet. Very long line at coach. For some reason our entry way was the exit way for a large international flight. And we were all standing around for 40 minutes for 'boarding to begin in 5 minutes'.

Eventually, a passenger went barrelling to the front of line line dismissively bumping half the other passengers along the way. When a few people politely let him know there was a line, he turned around, glared, waved his ticket, and said: "EXCUSE ME, BUT I'M A 1K!"

I saw this happen last July 20 in ORD. Thunderstorms had delayed/cancelled many flights and 941 ORD-LAX was delayed about 3 hours (we were lucky it was not cancelled). I was at Gate 23 waiting when a 1K arrived and began demanding from the GA (who was already stressed from all the stand-by's waiting for openings -- but was handling all with a good attitude) that he and his companion should get their u/g's (which were for a different flight) and would not settle for anything but less. They were lucky to even get on the plane a (757) at all. He continued to grumble and complain (and thoroughly annoy everyone -- all of whom were just happy to get on a plane!) and began again his tirade at boarding (which he had weasled his way up to the front of the line). Needless to say he ended up in E- and the two were seperated.

Actually roger this is totally wrong... they make the (self important)GS STAY in thier seats and make everyone on the plane kiss his card as they get off the plane:D

Really, I was under the impression that we were to pass by facing them at all times (never show your back to a GS) and genuflect in humble thanksgiving that we were even allowed to be on the same plane as one such a he:D

I must admit to pushing people on my way to a Ted flight screaming "I NEED A BOB SNACK BOX RIGHT AWAY"!

WHAT? We lowly peeps are allowed to look a GS in the face? Heresy.

Is this typical? It certainly would make me think twice about booking on UA.

Please give your business to another carrier because of this. I certainly don't want a person who thinks like this on any of my flights.

I think that I see what Iluv is trying to say - the behavior of one is not representative of the behavior of all, and that, in and of itself, is certainly not a reason to dismiss an entire carrier...

Nope - it was about the OP.

Stupid people everywhere

It's a sad state of affairs when people act like this GS guy. I've had it happen before but I've also seen 'regular' customers without any status do the same psuh ahead to the front of hte line because of <insert reason here>. It used to really chap me, but I've seen it so many times I just ignore them and don't move when they try and push me out of the way. An accidental elbow to the ribs as they push me has helped too.

Exactly, that the OP should not base a decision on the actions of 1 person. I have been GS for 2 years and I am pretty certain that I have never behaved like the person the OP referred to. Additionally, I know several other GS folks (including Iluv) and know that they wouldn't behave this way either....well, maybe there's one...:p

wimpypipsqueak Aug 18, 2007 5:11 pm

There are some dilemas about being GS and liking to keep it low key. I certainly don't go flashing my card, or barging to the front of lines. I'm sure meducate will attest to me joining the back of a long line at ORD after having a quick gateside chat.

However, there are times when its not possible.

a) Late arrival and tight connection and gate agent announces "Would Mr. Wimpy meet the agent at the door"
b) Gate agent "We'd like to invite Mr. Wimpy to board"
c) RCC announcement "Can Mr. Wimpy come to the desk. First class has now checked in full"

I much prefer a low key approach.

Wow. As written, that comes across as very harsh and judgmental. I hope I am mis-interpreting your post.

Why would you say something like that?? Would you really care if someone felt like that and then was on one of your flights?? In what way would it impact you? How would you even know if someone felt like this?

I'm not trying to sound mean, but honestly your statement comes across as mean-spirited as written and certainly I hope I am taking it the wrong way. I'll admit the OP's statement was perhaps a bit knee-jerk, but not deserving of this type of response.

I can only hope that your post ... does not deter the OP and/or other posters from contributing to this forum in the future.

Just my honest opinion.

RL

P.S. A good reminder for us all as we post on this and other boards. Here's a quote from the FlyerTalk Terms of Service (TOS):

When posting a message, pay extra care to how it might be interpreted. And when you come across a post that offends you, read it with an eye toward giving the poster the benefit of the doubt.
