As long as you still meet all the ticketing requirements, yes.
I was thinking about heading the airport on my lunch break tomorrow, but I don't want to drive 20 minutes to be told that I have to mail it after all. The 1K desk agent told me I had two weeks to mail the certificate ... I am just trying to save 13 days and go ahead and request my upgrades. :) Thoughts? |

I would say the risk of that happening is as close to zero as you can get. I've never had that happen.
I was given the reason that CR voucher doesn't apply to unpublished fares. However, the reservation was a published T fare. Otherwise I won't be able to hold it on ual.com Then the agent claimed that it's an internet fare and she won't ticket it there. But, even if it were an internet fare (it's not, AFAIK), the CR voucher T&C does not prohibit internet fares. I tried to argue, but she won't accept. So I ended up empty handed. |

I should think you wouldn't have a problem ticketing at the airport, assuming it's within 24 hours of when you spoke with the agent to set up the itin for TBM, but that's only conjecture. And that's assuming you find someone at the airport who knows how to do it, won't tell you "we're busy, come back tomorrow," etc. |

If that's what they told you, they misstated it: Dearborn has two weeks to receive and process your cert and issue your ticket; you have to have it postmarked within 24 hours of the time you talked to the phone CSR. What the CSR did was set the reservation not to auto-expire for two weeks (instead of the usual 24 hours). Whenever I have set up a TBM itinerary, the CSR virtually always tells me that if it hasn't been ticketed by day 11 to call so that the reservation can have more time added to it.
but I do plan to mail this tomorrow. |

Procedure
Call res and have them setup the PNR**provide the agent with the profile name**in this case--s*pmo/dollurua***the agent will mark the Pnr with a time line 14 days out **too guarantee the fare**if you go to the airport it has too be ticketed within 24 hrs of reservation**otherwise mail the voucher along with a copy of the PNR**to Dearborne**physically write the PNR number on the voucher**in bold print.
If you opt to go to the airport**make sure you give the res agent all billing info**cc number, billing address etc., so all the CSR at the airport has to do is swipe the cc and collect the voucher for ticketing**even the newest CSR should have no problem with the ticketing:) hopefully, all vouchers will be electronic soon and be applied only on the web site. |

After seeing I had wasted time, gas, parking, etc., the agent graciously agreed to ticket the itin for me and waive the ticketing fee. They issued the ticket and accidentally charged the fee. They agreed to refund it, but I'd have to talk to refunds (you know how that goes). So at the end of the day, to recap: I wasted my time, gas, cash for parking, was unable to use my voucher (so I spent more cash), lost miles, paid a ticketing fee for nothing, tried to recover it, but wasted more time there and gave up. Given that debacle, my subsequent voucher items have been done with ticket-by-mail, and all have been flawless. Set it up ahead of time as indicated here in this thread, mail the vouchers in, it takes about a week or so for them to process it. You're all set. |
A related question: About a week ago, I booked-and-held an itin on united.com, then called the 1K desk to learn about my options for applying some credit vouchers to the purchase. I couldn't make it to the airport within the 24 hour period, and I had found a good S fare. So I settled on ticket-by-mail, and I sent the vouchers in, postmarked the next day, along with a printout of the held reservation showing flights and PNR.
It's been a week now, and nothing has been ticketed. And the held reservation no longer shows up in "My Itineraries" -- which I would expect it to if the reservation had been modified to auto-expire in 14 days (instead of 24 hours) as suggested in this thread. So, should I be worried that I've lost my S fare, and a couple hundred bucks in vouchers? Or will the good folks in Dearborn come through? Is it worth calling? (And who would I call?) |
I would call the 1K desk and see if they still can see the reservation in any form, and explain the situation. Nine days is not grounds for worrying by itself. When I have done a TBM my reservation disappeared from the Held Itins and moved to the main Itins section; but clicking on it said "This itin has not been ticketed."
Hopefully, as a previous poster suggested, at least you insured your delivery for the amount of the vouchers. |

My experience has been that they cannot even be requested until the itin is ticketed.
On American Airlines, you can do this. I did a ticket-by-mail a few weeks ago and the website allows you to request upgrades on an itin not yet ticketed. A much better system, IMHO. |

I stand corrected here; cblaisd is right.

The itinerary shows up, but no e-receipt. And when I tried to request an upgrade, da.bomb gave me an error message. ;) Let me see how long will the ticket be issued. I'm sending out the CR certificate today via certified mail. |
