Got a similar replacement Platinum card about 2 weeks ago. Expiration date changed from 2008 to same month 2009.

Activated and used for numerous UA charges, amongst other things. No issues.

Got a new one also and thankful it had the same old look to it as opposed to my wifes Platinum card which has some new colorful background thing on it. Ugly I think.

New card AND double miles

I received a new one as well with a slightly later expiration date.

When I received the original card a few months ago, I used it once to qualify for the 20,500 points. Then stopped using it. Received with my replacement card a notice that I will get double miles for ALL purchases with my Mileage Plus Visa from Dec. 22 through February 15. No registration needed.

I'm guessing since I was one of those who signed up for the card just to get the mega miles promotion, they want me to start using it. And I will ..... during the double miles promotion period.

In the past few months I have amassed more than 50,000 Mileage Plus points without flying (dining = 32,500 with 25,000 point bonus promotion + 20,500 for Visa card promotion). I hope to pile on to that non-flying total during the 7-8 week double miles promotion. ^ Now if I could only get an awards seat on the Asian trip I want to take in the spring........

It is a pain. I have the card information stored with different merchants, including United.com. If I activate the new card, I will have to go to each site and change the expiration date. So, I am going to wait.

No, you don't. As long as the expiration date is in the future, you don't need to update it. I've entered the wrong expiration date on multiple occasions with no ill effects.

One more who got an unrequested replacement platinum card by mail. The only difference is a couple of years in the expiration date as far as I can tell.

Not necessarily. If the merchant stores the CVVS code, then they will start to reject it.

When I got my new cards, I was disappointed that they didn't include the proximity card feature--blink or whatever it is. Weren't we all supposed to start getting those?
