Minimum time at PVG?
How long before flight time are you required to check in for a UA international flight from PVG?
The family member that took us to the airport doesn't seem concerned about the fact we got there 64 minutes from flight time--and that only because I squawked loudly about his originally planned departure time.

Time to past security and immigrations is around half hour to 45 min. So if you don't need to stay in line to check in, one hour should be O.K. But usually I will leave downtown 3 to 3 1/2 hours before in case there is traffic and usually arrive 2 hours before.

from downtown
i have some amusing stories on PVG.
i was partying like crazy in PVG. returned to the hotel around 5pm. my flight was at 10:20.
i woke up 9:00. and let me say, i had to catch this flight.
it was the only flight , all others were oversold.
and i wasnt ready packed, i had to through all my things in my trolley and took a taxi . so my calculation was to get to the airport within 35minutes .
so 6 mins to pack and checkout .
there was a bit of traffic so i needet 22 minutes to go to the TRANSRAPID station. i bought a ticket there, and had to wait 10 minutes. (clock tickin 38 minutes elapsed)
7 minutes on the train for the rest of the 32km to the airport, and 3 minutes from the train to the checkin desks. arrived there 9:48 and they let me checkin, but i think i was really really lucky.
this was the second time i messed up the timezones, and woke up to late, and my second run with the transrapid, hell this train saved my life ...
but if you want to check-in comfortable, leave the city at least 2.5 hours ahead of time. if it is crowded you will need 1.5 hours.
if its too crowded change to the transrapid, if you can take the transrapid , it saves you around 25 minutes .

If there is a queue at departure immigration at PVG, take leftmost line which is the fastest one (called from next official/disabled line).

It depends on how long the checkin counter will stay open before a flight. Once you checked in, I believe the airplane will wait for you for a reasonable period of time if there is delay in immigration and/or safety check. I assume it is 60 minutes for international flight. But on my last standby trip to Singapore on SQ, I did not get my boarding pass until exactly 30 minutes before departure. So SQ checkin counter open until 30 minutes before departue, I am not sure exactly how long for UA.
