No. The tickets are normally booked in the NC or NF booking class. :(

When an announcement is made like that, do people come running forward?

altostratus May 8, 2006 4:52 pm

ORD-MUC Y>C=$550 (offered by easy chicken)

MUC-IAD Y>C=380 Euros (had to ask)

This was in March on way-cheap S fare. Took both.

DEN-OAK $160 on May 7 offered by OLCI and Mr Easy.

For an A320 F seat with no food v. slightly smaller E+ seats?? No thanks, particularly as I only paid $125 for the entire DCA-DEN-OAK segments. I was about to resuscitate the "Is Mr. Easy on Crack" thread.

In general the prices are way outta whack for the short-haul flights. Why would I pay $160 now when I could have done it hours earlier for $100 worth of stickers?

It's funny, though, as Mrs. Boraxo and I agreed that we would quickly jump to pay $300 per seat to upgrade a transoceanic segment. :)

If UA was smarter it would adopt the Alaska/National (now defunct) model for upgrade pricing. Less money per person, but fewer free op-ups.

flying lhr to sfo next week in economy plus. do I need to ask for an upgrade or will the counter agent/easy chicken ask me. If I do check in by machine can I go to the counter to ask for upgrade or is too late?

camachinist May 12, 2006 9:59 am

While YMMV, I've found, if one wishes to negotiate, that the first person to talk invariably loses, especially if that person is the customer. If you want to pay what you know to be market price, it never hurts to ask. You can even ask for an upgrade at the gate. I assume such requests are the reason for the ubiquitous "First Class has checked-in full" announcments.
Our best success for getting a good price has been when the check-in agent asked us first.

Which flight (number & date) are you on? I could look up some load factors for you to give you an idea of your chances.
