LAX customs checking

I'm heading back in a couple weeks from some reserves work NRT through LAX ending in IAD. I'm interested in if anyone knows whether when I clear customs if I will have to go back throuch security lines like at SFO or if LAX is like most ohter places and I can go stright to the next plane? Concerned that I have a seemingly short time form getting off the flight, clearing and getting back on the plane or to a new one is that's how they have it rigged (direct flight NRT to IAD that seems to stop in LAX). WOn't be able to check for acouple of days but thanks in advance

Yes, you will have to go through security again.

Sorry to inform you that you will need to clear security at LAX for your connecting flight after custome. Also, LAX is one of the worst airports in the system for baggage delivery, so the customs process is usually longer. However, direct flights usually have plenty of time built in for the process so you should be fine.

United has its own Customs area , its pretty crowded when a full flight comes in ,
can take 10-20 minutes thru passport control, and I have never had my luggage waiting for me , even with priority tags (worthless).

Once past US Customs and out the door there is a place to leave your cleared luggage , but you are now down in the arrival area and will need to make your way upstairs and thru Security again.

I believe that *anywhere*, after you've had access to checked baggage (and therefore any prohibited-on-board items), you will be required to pass through security before getting on your next flight.

Actually anywhere in the US that you arrive on an international flight and transfer to a domestic, whether claiming a bag or not, you MUST reclear security. There are no airside transfers from imternational to domestic.
