New Mr. Easy Checkin Interface

Mr. Easy Checkin seems to have received some much needed plastic surgery! The facelift has brought back his youthful appearance.

Checking in at SMF yesterday, I first noticed that the bland welcome screen was replaced by a picture of a UA plane in new livery. I noticed also that the screen wasn't fixed, and there were other things displayed as well.

Also, I immediately noticed that now there is an option of checking in without any cards. There is a button that will allow you to enter your MP number, record locator, or E-Ticket number. I was immediately successful in using my MP number to log in. This is a huge step as it allows me to pull out one less card. ^

Are these changes systemwide? Did anyone notice any other changes? I was in a little hurry, and couldn't spend much more time playing around.

Maybe they also fixed the problems we had seen here before, regarding passengers receiving the wrong boarding passes?

So, far, this looks like a great move, UA!

Saw the same interface yesterday in DEN. Like you, was kind of in a hurry and didn't have time to play.

Questions:

1) Were these the old (Silver Machine) Mr. Chickens or the new (Black Plastic Machine)?

2) Did you get thermal boarding pass or cardstock boarding pass?

3) Any options of printing itinerary?

Another Question: Does the new interface allow you to reprint your boarding pass if you have already checked-in (e.g. at home) (i.e. a la US)?

This is one of the original-type machines that printed the gold cardstock. I refuse to use the thermal ones.

I did not notice an option for printing the itinerary, but again I didn't play around.

This is one of the things that I've been waiting for...

Mine was showing public domain cartoons from the 1940's.

Also Easy Check-in Online no longer requires a Mileage Plus number.

This is a change that I've long been waiting for. I use my Dividend Miles number whenever I fly on United, and I have always been annoyed that I can't check-in online. It was never worth the hassle to me to open a Mileage Plus account, put the number in just to check-in online, possibly lose the Economy Plus seat assignment when I removed by DM elite number, switch back the number to US after I checked in, etc.

This change must be pretty new, because I last few United about 3 weeks ago and couldn't check-in online.

It does, it does, it does!!!! Tried this out by checking in online on Friday and reprinting at the airport on Saturday. BillJ

That's great news!!

It is great that they added the reprint boarding passes to Easy Check-in kiosks. I appreciated this feature on the AA machines earlier this year.

I emailed United and recommended that they add it for passenger convenience and to save CSR labor costs. I'm glad someone listens occasionally at UA HQ.

Just out of curiosity, why the need to reprint BP's? Surely an itinerary printout plus the thermal BP's are sufficient for expense claims, tax returns, etc?

In case it doesn't print the first time.

It allows you to use online checkin (to grab a better seat, or to get on the DM list early) when you don't have a printer available (e.g., while you are in the middle of a trip).

Incidentally, online checkin has been updated and it, too, now has an option to reprint your documents.
