Or if you get to the airport and realize that you forgot your printed boarding pass at home. *raises hand* Guilty.

I've left mine on my desk on my way out of the office more times than I can count.

Stand-by offered at easycheckin

When checking in at IND yesterday the EasyCheckin volunteered that the flight might be delayed by weather, and I would have a better chance of making my final connection if I stood by for an earlier flight. It let me select a flight to stand-by for and printed the extra departure management card in addition to the confirmed boarding pass.

Advice: Checkin online vs Mr Easy Checkin

I want to fly standby for an earlier flight.

Is it possible to check in online and still standby for an earlier flight using the Easy Checkin machine? I'm not sure if checking in earlier helps.

Or, should I just wait to get to the airport and do it all at once?

I have the exact same question as LAX Gambit. I tried to do a search (on 3 computers in 3 different locations no less), but I couldn't even get the search results to show. :(

Often I'm traveling without printer access, so I have a family member check me in online. Previously when I got to the airport, I had an agent print me out a boarding pass since Easy Check-in was unable to do this.

I flew with AA last year and their kiosks were able to reprint BPs. I wrote UA an email suggesting that they add this to Easy Check-in. I am glad that they added this improvement. It saves me time and it saves UA money by allowing me to bypass the agent. Win-win.

Now if they would only listen to our suggestions for United.com and actually implement them....

I just find it humorous that Mr. Easy Check-In has a great interface, works flawlessly 99% of the time, and has a lot of nifty features - all things lacking on ual.com :)

Maybe there is hope for united.com since it is obvious there are now some IT people at UA who know what they are doing. ^ (Yes, my first name is Pollyanna.)

(Bump)

Has anybody ever found an answer to this question about checking in on-line and using the airport Easy Checkin for a standby request?

I was told once that the earlier the better for checking in, but status matters more.

Meant to say:

This thread applied to the EZ interface a version ago (2004) and that one did not give you standby if you were already checked in.

I have no idea about the new version that people have been talking about lately. (2005).

If you are flying afternoon and evening, you might be departing outside of these time ranges, so no food would be expected.

Dude, at least give me a couple of minutes to fix my mistakes.

I was not able to list myself to standby for an earlier flight and I also assisted someone else wanting to do the same thing, using the in airport Easy Checkin once we had both received our boarding passes online at home. I do not know if you check in at the airport and then decide to list yourself, if the machine will allow it. Basically, once you're checked in, the only thing you can do is reprint your boarding pass and receipt, unless of course the flight changes to a delayed status, then it can assist with rebooking efforts.

Awhile back when online checkin was introduced I used the service one time and left my boarding pass behind and back then the EasyCheckin kiosk would not even allow you to re-print (at least it didn't that day at LAX). So I had to wait in line and get it from the TA. That was the last time I used online checkin on the web. Personally I don't really see any value...I can count on half of one hand the number of times I've had to wait for even a minute or two for a kiosk at the airport. Plus I like the thermal BP better (gives a ticket for the FA to put on the coat hanger). From the airline's perspective I imagine it's a bit of a headache too as people who check in from home aren't there at the airport yet and when it comes time to work the standby & upgrade lists there is no way to know for sure if someone who has checked in from home but not boarded yet is actually there at the airport or stuck in a traffic jam...so they cannot award their seat to someone else until the last possible minute.
