how early is the kiosk available pre-flight??

I realize this is ever so slightly OT, but I don't want to start a new thread. I thought I understood this, but now reading the posts in this thread, I'm suddenly confused. OLCI is available 24 hours before the first leg, as usual. Suppose you are at the correct departure airport for a subsequent trip, and want to use a EZ Checkin kiosk for a separate trip departing from that same airport the next day. Will the kiosk issue boarding passes 24 hours before departure from that same airport? Or is that only OLCI that is available that early??

You can also get them printed out for you in the RCC, if you're a member. They are very familiar with MRs. I have my one and only MR for 2009 coming up on Wednesday; will be interested to see if the same day return BP prints. Thanks for the post.

Yes. However, sometimes (at least) you have to enter your confirmation number and not just have it search for your name by scanning something.

MR Check-in Question

I'm doing my first MR tomorrow and am worried about check-in. The "outbound" is SEA-ORD-CMH. The "return" left leaves CMH 30 minutes after landing (same plane back to ORD).

I'm already checked in for the outbound leg, but not sure how to check-in for the return leg. Online won't even show me it as an option since it's still just looking at the outbound which I'm already checked in for. Will I be able to check in for the return either at SEA or ORD in the morning or will I have to wait to complete the outbound flight before I check-in? I'm concerned that the 30 minutes won't give me enough time to do it.

Thanks.

Ask for your boarding passes for your return segments when checking in at SEA. It shouldn't be a problem. Or you can check in via mobile and ask for a boarding pass at the gate.

Sorry, I'm a dummy. Just found the "view additional flights" link at the top of the online check-in page. Wasn't easy to find though :(

I'm surprised UA hides the "View Additional Flights" so well.. It took me a time or two to find it when I did my first mileage run.. Safe travels! ^

The one check-in method that often doesn't work to get all your same-day boarding passes, is to use the airport chicken (Easy Check-in.) Often it quits, sputters or has a printer failure when you request your return BPs. So I usually use the OLCI (yes, finding the "additional flights" choice is often tricky) or just go to an agent at the first-segment airport and ask someone who seems not too busy (check-in, RCC, gate, etc).

I did have problem getting all boarding pass, missing one leg out of 7 on the way back, had to get another boarding pass at the 6 leg.

Yup as to not having the chicken hatch the return bp(s) as it thinks you're still at your outbound airport so I also have an agent re-print my remaining bp(s) (even tho I have a printed olci copy, i prefer the card stock size as all i need is the stub for filing purposes) and a tip when asking the agent to reprint....do it by segment number as it makes it easier for them* (i.e. my run later today is SFO-DEN-TPA-IAD-SFO and I will re-hatch my 3 outbound bp's SFO-DEN, DEN-TPA & TPA-IAD at an SFO chicken and then go inside and ask the agent to re-print segment 4 [IAD-SFO])

*also makes it easier for the agent if you want to request to be on a given segment for VDB ;)

Can't Check-In for Same-Day Return Flight

I was unable to find a thread on this topic - but what do I do in this case?

I have a same day turn tomorrow, and United is only allowing me to check-in for the outbound flight. I only have about 1 hour scheduled on the ground, obviously less than that if the outbound arrives late.

If United requires me to reach my destination before checking in for the return flight, there is a real possibility that I could be considered a late check-in and lose my seat on the return flight.

What can I do about this?

mahasamatman Dec 15, 2010 9:04 am

I assume you're within 24 hours of the return's departure? Just have to check...

mirobatka Dec 15, 2010 9:08 am

Are you trying to check-in online?

If so, all of my same-day and immediate turnaround MRs this year on Delta, I could not check in online for. But the agent at the airport printed out boarding passes without problems.

Once you are within the OLCI period for your return flight, you can do it. Access OLCI, and when you select the itinerary and click into it, there will be a little note available, I don't remember the exact verbiage, that says 'You have other flights available to check in for'. You need to be in the itinerary itself first for this hint to show up.
