You guys scare me.. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I am in Vegas for the TDWI event and my only hope is that I am leaving Friday night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

By the way, not all the SFO-LAS flights are Ted. I flew in one that was regular A320, but will be flying out on Ted on Friday..

Oh, I also like the Class B chart on the terminal floor as you come out of the escalators.

fenstere Feb 17, 2004 10:35 am

I'd rather walk to San Francisco than sit through the Y-Class line at LAS; with TED taking over the route, this means using other airlines (or purchasing two tickets... one first class to somewhere else in order to get through security, refunding it, and then TED to SFO. Not the most ethical approach, but what the hell choice are they offering?)

mauld Feb 17, 2004 10:45 am

I'm flying on an A ticket, and part of my trip will be on the new TED LAS-DEN (then connecting on to EWR). I know LAS has those special 'lanes' for First Class, but as my flight out of LAS will be on the no-class TED will I be able to use it? (Assuming the general lines are still impossible when I fly at the end of this month).

fly4miles Feb 17, 2004 10:54 am

Nope. You need a FC stamp to get thru the FC line. The screeners are checking the boarding passes very closely according to the UA agents. I travel out weekly on a Sunday and it's been hell since January. If TED takes over the flights before they solve the queue problem, it'll take less time for me to drive to LA and fly out of LAX than wait in those lines.

mauld Feb 17, 2004 12:20 pm

As I'll be checking in for my connecting flight LAS-DEN(TED)-EWR in F, will that make any difference in getting a full F stamp in LAS??

Sounds like a good reason to avoid LAS.

The Federal Security Director at LAS is the sorriest excuse for a airport security manager on the planet.

It's not the crowds, it's not the personnel (or lack thereof), it's the policies and the harassment. Shoe carnival, Great Pointy Object Search and Random SSSS Harassment make the LAS FSD a true clown. He should be fired and his pension revoked and used to pay all the people who have been inconvenienced by his incompetence.

As far as I know they check your outbound BP from LAS. I'd call Randall Walker the head of McCarran Aviation to see if they'd accept the connection in the FC line.

Hi,

This article from the Las Vegas Review journal has a map showing the lengths of the queues.( Click on the map to enlarge it)

It looks like the D gates were the worst;

Looks absolutely awful.

You have a phone number for this guy? I'd love for us LAS fliers to call him and let him know our concerns.

The agents at UA said the only ones who get the red stamp are confirmed F fliers and UGS - No 1K's or other elites. Has the UGS part now changed too? With TED, this frightens me.

I'm returning to ORD from LAS on Sunday at noon. I'll file a report.

His direct number from the airport website is 702-261-5211...

I was speaking with a person at the hotel bar last night and he informed me that he was flying firs class and was unable to use the first class line.

I knew something had to be wrong with that statement and I pressed him further. It turns out that simple flying first class is not entrance to the line. There is a needed First Class sticker/stamp that must be applied by an agent to gain access to the first class line. This annoys me because I like to check in on-line or at a kiosk rather than wait on-line for my bp.

Apparently, the checkers do not check the actual seat number just for the red stamp.

If I have a free second on Sunday, I am going to file a complaint about the craziness of a first class line that cannot be used by all first class passangers, simple because they use other means to check in.

Well, at the risk of p*ssing some folks here off, I'm going to add my two cents. I doubt that anyone here flies through LAS more than I do (I've flown in/out of LAS each/every week since the last week of June '03, not counting the last 2 weeks of December, but I was there T-giving week, and I'm scheduled to fly RDU-LAS every week thru the end of June '04).

Credentials established, I typically fly in late (11pm-ish) on Sun nite and fly out via the red-eye Thu night. Every once in awhile, I'll catch a Fri afternoon (1pm-ish) departure, like last week (Fri Feb 13th). The lines for C/D were horrendous. I was in coach (9C, exit row, chose not to burn any certs). I walked up to the FC checker, flashed my boarding pass, and was granted access without so much as a batted eye-lid. This wasn't the first time I've skipped the long line to get access to first (without either a FC ticket or a red sticker, whatever that is), and I've NEVER been rejected (I've done it successfully 3 times now). My take on it is that I'm going to miss my flight if I wait in the coach line, so why not take a chance at the FC line? The worse thing that can happen is that they throw me back to the end of long line and that I've cost myself 2-3 minutes--big whoop.

Now that I've confessed my sins, I hope you'll have mercy on my soul and forgive me, for I have wronged and I feel terrible about it.

Sounds like the local stationary store might be having a run on red "1st Class" stamps.

For some reason even though your BP says 1st, you must have the stamp. At CES I was not in F however I had the agent stamp my BP and I slipped straight thru?

Maybe some enterprising individual can sell stamps on your BP for $10 a pop in line http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I called his office about an hour ago. His assistant said he was in a meeting until 5 p.m. I talked to her a little about the issue, since she wanted to know if it was her boss or the TSA who I needed to talk to. After a few minutes, she did indeed say it was under the jurisdiction of her boss. She said that he or one of his associates would call me back in the morning.

Any bets on that?

I will call every day until I talk to someone.

Is there a website that shows the Vegas convention schedule so that one might have a chance of planning around the big conventions. I realize it's not a guarantee but every little weapon helps. How about webcams like many cities have to monitor traffic congestion.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
