Also I know that you cannot pay for a ticket using two different credit cards. Therfore they should not be able to do a two card refund.

Actually, this is untrue. I have used multiple cards to pay for tickets before (ie. *A Europasses for part work/part personal travel).

Or more probably, this policy helps avoid some potential fraud schemes. Say you bought a tix on your company's Visa, then decided not to take the trip ... maybe thought your boss wouldn't notice or whatever ... hypothetically (if UA didn't insist on refunding the exact card) you could "refund" the tix to your personal Visa.

That is the exact reason UA gave me...

But I just don't want to deal with an account that I have closed and wait months for a closed credit card that I don't have an account with any longer to "hopefully" send me a check....

Here is what I know...

Today I called NW about a refund on an award ticket. See this lonely thread:

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum35/HTML/006977.html

I was specifically asked whether the tax refund should go to the original card or a different one.

I once returned a shaver at Sears and had closed the original card that I charged it to, there was no problem whatsoever to get the refund credited to a different card.

With this in mind, it's entirely possible to charge one card and have the refund on another. However, as the timeframe between purchase and refund shrinks and the dollar amount goes up, I suspect that scrunity increases by the same. That is if you deal with a clever rep.

Basically, we refund it back to the original FOP. Even if the account is closed. Apparently, what I was told in training was that the credit card company would sort it out in the end.

Case in point: My trainer said he had charged something on his card, which he later closed. Turned out somehow or other things happened and he wanted a refund. It went back to the original FOP, and the credit card issuer cut him a check and mailed it to him. Not the fastest way, but, it balances everyones books http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Re: The original question. From my limited ticketing training, I seem to remember there are more than one set of "refund to" boxes if the payment shown is MS (miscellaneous - or multiple forms of payment), which, in your case, would be. Each respective portion gets refunded to your respective credit card, and all is hunky dory http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
