No snackboxes in First?

I was flying transcon yesterday. Had a mediocre meal, yucky piece of cake for dessert, than a yummy chocolate chip cookie. I later asked the FA if there were any other snacks, or if I could get a snackbox. He said because I was in First, he couldn't sell me a snackbox. Is this normal? Seems very very odd to me. And the flight was I think almost 6 hours!

He couldn't sell it to you but as I have read many postings here, they'd give it to you (not sure if it was an entitlement or just good customer service).

I've been told the same...although the same FA told me that if I requested one, she' give it to me (free).

Let me get this straight - you ate the meal provided in F and then also requested a snackbox? If that's what I'm reading, I'm not surprised the FA didn't want to get one for you....considering he needed to sell them to hungry passengers in Y who weren't provided with complimentary meals in the premium cabin.

Those morning East Coast to West Coast flights really should have a pre-arrival snack.

The omelet or fruit plate just doesn't cut it! It EXACTLY the same breakfast for a mid-con PHX-ORD and a transcon BOS-SFO!!!!

I take the 8pm ORD-SNA flight occasionally and we get that nasty cheese plate instead of a meal. 4+ hours, I'd rather buy one of the snack boxes or a-la-cart items they have. These flights the food service is better in Y than F. UA should ditch the cheese plate and just offer the boxes and sandwiches in F.

Have you sent an email to UA?

FAs handed out some of the boxes and entrees last night from MCO-LAX. I wasn't feeling the chicken dish that was given to me, so they gave me a LUXE Box, turkey sandwich, a roast beef sandwich, and a Tobleron bar. ^

I just few on a UX from YUL to ORD and received the snack box as the meal, which I thought was a nice option for a 1:50 min flight. I really just want the extra space of F rather than the food service.

Regardless of whether or not someone has eaten the meal provided in First, I think it is quite bizarre that UA refuses to accept payment from ANYONE for one of the snackboxes onboard. If a passenger is willing to pay for the BOB... why shouldn't they be able to do so?

Yet, somehow, humans are able to go without food for more than six hours.

flew sfo-bos last week, and did get hungry 4 hours into the flight. the fa mentioned that she and her colleague were looking for nuts or cookies, anything to offer us, but there was nothing available. then she did bring me a luxe snack box. (no charge).

I've had mixed experiences on this (like everything else on United) from "we're out of them" to "here you can have this one for free".

deskover54 Dec 10, 2009 3:07 pm

correct, the FA wouldn't sell it to me. he also did not offer one for free, nor did i ask. yes, i ate my meal. and no, the fa did not check if there were any available (perhaps he knew, but then an appropriate response would have been "were out" as oppsed to "i can't sell to you cuz you're in F which i think is just bizarre")

i was iad to sfo. i think it's about a 5-6 hour flight. and i think if a pax wants to buy a snackbox they should be allowed.

i also think the policy should be consistent. either fa's can or cannot sell to F, either they do or do not or can only substitute a snackbox for a meal. i would rather have a consistent policy where in F you cannot have a snackbox except as a meal substitution, then an inconsistent policy where sometimes you get and sometimes you don't. it would help me prepare by bringing my own snacks/food which i can do, but would rather not lug extra stuff around unless i know i'll need it.

I always thought about loading up on Snackboxes before I deboarded...am I a hoarder?
