1K

Has anyone noticed that when you become 1K with United that the airline treats you worst since they know you will give them your business?

l etoile Aug 21, 2002 7:55 am

Nope. Quite the opposite experience here.

I disagree also that UA now "knows" you will give them your business. As many people here have pointed out before, once you achieve 1K there's incentive to switch to another carrier the remainder of the year to have status with a second airline. UA has every reason to treat their 1Ks well and for the most part they do.

Did you write the original post yourself? Or did your grammar skills collapse over the course of 23 minutes? Just curious.

For the age thing, sounds like something EXP@15 could answer.

I know that my 13 year old can range from 2 to 22 within the space of 5 minutes, so this isn't a huge surprise! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Cathy, during your three tenure as a 1K, why precisely do you feel that UA has been treating you worse? At least, above and beyond the diminution of services and amenities that have afflicted all UA passengers of late. During your long pre-1K experience, how were things better for you?

I have had the opposite experience. I have been a 1K for more than 8 years and have nearly always been treated very well. I think individual representatives may treat customers differently, but I have been very pleased with the consideration I have received from UA worldwide.

ozflier Aug 21, 2002 4:17 pm

I've been a 1K for several consequetive years now and really feel I get treated with more consideration than a 1 or 2P.It is one of the reasons that I stick with UA.

EPS Aug 23, 2002 4:12 pm

I might be in the minority here, but I definitely have not noticed any improvement in service since becoming a 1K. If anything, it's become worse. A lot worse. UA Marketing made a lot of empty promises about how wonderful 1K status would be. In retrospect, I think I would have been a lot better off seeking mid-tier status on two major carriers than top-tier on one.

They treat me very well as a 1K, much better than before as a Premier Exec.

But I think expectations have a lot to do with it.

As 1K I get more upgrade tools to work with, HK49s and SWUs. And I can upgrade most anytime I want to.

I also get the pleasure to deal with the best CSRs in the world, The Seattle 1K room crew.

This is about all I need to justify shooting for 1K, over being happy with 1P.

Cathy's 4th post does not deserve a reply. As an 8th year 1k, her statement is nonsense. Don't fall for it.
