Explorer SUB - Silver status after spend / segments

Parents received a targeted offer for silver status (earn this year, valid until Jan 2028) with qualifying spend after card opening and flying 4 United segments. Not sure how common this is, but surprised to see status offered as a card sign up bonus.

That's the first time I've ever seen a major US airline offer status with an entry level credit card (or any card, for that matter).

Obviously not the same at all, but the Amex Centurion card does (DL Plat).

Interesting the 4 flight UA operated segments still required.

fwiw you can get the Delta Amex Plat ($350) and Reserve ($650) which gives you enough starter MQD for Silver Medallion status (comprable to Premier Silver) without taking a single flight! This United offer still requires the 4 PQFs. For delta, you can do it again with the business versions of the cars and get "automatic" Gold with all the starter MQDs added up from the 4 cards!

I believe there is some deal in Australia for a credit card that offers UA status benefits..

I took advantage of this offer. I have two UA metal segments from January that were booked via LH Miles and More. Tried to call in to no avail. Agent seemed fairly competent and even put me on hold to double check. Frustrating because if I would have known about this at the time I would have updated my FF# to UA after booking,

I also had a revenue flight on B6 credited to UA from a few weeks back.

The list of flyers who have earned UA miles from flying in 2026, flown segments on UA in 2026, and haven't received any segment credits must be pretty short but here we are…

To get UA flight credit, you needed to credit to UA MP. Post travel change from one program to another is very difficult. To get it to work, you need LH first delete the crediting to LH -- there is essentially no motivation to LH to that. If you could get that done, then you request missing flight credit from UA. Doing this for an award flight is probably unknown.

Not sure of the relevance as only UA metal segments meet the card requirements.

Mrs. SPN Lifer lost her Premier Silver membership on Sunday, 1 February 2026.

While she is a life member of the United Club, and has the Quest Card, this seems too good of an offer not to at least see if she is targeted.

New SUB for explorer card: "free" premier silver status

Interestingly I just got an offer from united. They're offering premier silver status + 80k miles if you sign up for a united explorer card and hit the spend requirements. I've seen 3k PQPs offered for a few of their cards before but never enough to qualify for instant status.

SPN Lifer Mar 4, 2026 2:58 am

Do you have any idea, lostinthegrid, why you might have been targeted?

Hawkeyefan Mar 4, 2026 7:49 am

Wife got the same mailer couple days back

lostinthegrid Mar 4, 2026 5:31 pm

No idea, maybe because I have status with AA and I've been likely to buy upgrades on UA flights?

geckoflyer Mar 4, 2026 6:00 pm

Just as a data point, I also received an email that includes Silver status after spend. We are free agents…in that we fly UA when it makes the most sense, but from CHS a lot of our normal domestic travel is with Breeze.

I’m guessing they are targeting people who didn’t qualify for Silver, but have an “interesting enough” profile.

For me, I can think of a few things that would make United want to earn more of my business. I generally pay for upgrades, I’m already in the Chase “ecosystem” (but don’t have a UA card at the moment although had the Club card in the past), and fly enough to be interested in free bags maybe?

Not exactly sure, but if those who were targeted post more details I bet we could figure out the methodology behind it.

ETA: I do have a business banking relationship with Chase as well

lostinthegrid Mar 5, 2026 12:41 am

Yeah, I think being in the Chase ecosystem so that they can see your travel patterns and which airlines you fly + travel spending in certain thresholds is probably what triggers it. Premier Silver is probably the bait that gets people to switch, basically like a status challenge but with less work involved?
