It’s always important to understand what your threshold is in case there’s a CV disconnect:
1) are you in a paid business class cabin or are you on a free ticket or are you upgraded? If you disconnect and the only seats available are in economy, are you OK with that? 2) if you disconnect and the only seats available one day later or two days later, are you OK with that? 3) are you OK to break up the family for the travel if necessary? |

You could hang onto your current itinerary and see if NRT-SGN availability opens up later, at which point UA could make the switch. However, NH isn’t exactly generous with close-in award availability, and the longer you wait, the more likely it is your preferred UA-only itinerary (if different from your current one) fills up in J. |

I booked business award tickets for three of using UA mileage.
TUL to DEN (UA first class) DEN to LAX (UA first class) (leaving DEN at 7:40 am) LAX to SGN (stop in HKG for an hour or so) (United Polaris UA) Oroginally the layover in DEN is 58 min. United just changed the DEN to LAX flight time, which shrinked the layover in DEN to 42 min!!! I think this is a risky connection. If the TUL to DEN flight is delayed, we will miss the DEN to LAX. We have about 3 hr layover in LAX before the international segment. Note that there is another flight leaving DEN for LAX around 9:40 am, which should be fine to catch the interational segment in LAX (around 1 hr layover in LAX). What do you experts here think? The TUL to DEN is very risky and it is the very first flight out of TUL in the morning (6 am). TIA. |
June 23, 2026. My husband goes with daugher and I this time so I have no flexibility for last minute thing.

The OP does not have an issue unless both the TUS-DEN early flight is late AND the later DEN-LAX is full. I agree with others to stay with what the OP has and handle the situation if needed at DEN as there are more options from DEN. |

True.... but 42 min. layover really cracks my nerve although I know there is later flight to LAX from DEN...
Also my home airport is small and mor ethan once UA plane has had "mechanic" problems which resulted in late arrival. Also thunderstorm time in the summer..so who knows.... My husband 's UA flight last week to IAH had mechanic problems, but luckily he was not late for the connection to NRT given his layover time was like 2 hrs.

I believe OP has already switched, but I would have stuck with what was had for yet another reason: LAX has a Polaris lounge to wait in while Denver does not.

Update: I switched back to the earlier DEN to LAX flight as United just changed the schedule time again to 8 am. So now we are back to 1 hr layover in DEN. United also changed the airplane type so we cannot choose our seat now, but at least we are still in first class.
