Problem with UA flights credited to wrong program / account, possible stolen miles?

so i took advantage of the mileage run deal flying fll-ewr-hkg-hgh-sfo-iad-yyz and so did a couple friends and we made a good trip of hgh and pvg for a few days.

the 2 friends do not have mileageplus accounts and i advised them to credit to singapore since they would get 100%miles flown. this trip was in september and was during the hurricane and so all flights out of fll were to be cancelled so united allowed us to change our tickets an we flew jax-ewr 2 days before our original ewr-hkg flight and just had fun in nyc.

the problems occurred when we came back. my flights credited normally as i credited to UA, but all of their flights did not credit except the jax-ewr flights. Eventually singapore managed to get the flights ewr-hkg credite but not hgh-sfo-iad-yyz saying that someone had attached an amtrak number account to each of my friends names and had the flights credited there. After calling back and forth between singapore and united with both programs telling me the other was responsible for fixing the problem, singapore was actually able to give me the account numbers that were used and we were able to contact amtrak who said they dont even understand how the account numbers were added and the names dont even match and that they looked like chinese names. amtrak has said they would try to reverse the credit and contact us and let us know but we have not heard back and called back a couple times without getting anywhere yet.

has anyone else had problems like this? is this a result of when we changed the ticket because of the hurricane and the phone agent stealing miles or making a mistake? prior to the changes united confirmed that the whole flight was originally credited to singapore and the change only happened after the ticket change.

each agent told us it was not possible to credit to amtrak until we had them look at the record and actually see that it was done and then they had no answers.

Once a flight has been credited to a program, nothing is going to happen until that credit is reversed. So you will need to wait until Amtrak does that -- and getting a program to reverse credit has always been difficult. If they do get reversed, then your friends need to ask SQ for missing mileage credit.

And yes you can credit UA flights to the Amtrak Guest Rewards program

As you heard, the name mis-match should have prevented the credit in the first, so that is odd.

thanks for the info, amtrak would not give us the names of the peoples names on the account but confirmed they were not the same.

United denied Mileage : ticket mixup I guess

I have United Mileageplus as my primary mileage program.
I traveled SFO-DEL on Air India and the mileage was credited correctly. It was a return ticket.
On return, I changed the date and even the flight number (from AM to PM flight) and it seems Air India created a new ticket and did not carry forward my mileage plus number.

Now when I request miles from United, they say "Denied. Our records indicate that mileage for this flight has already been credited to another airline’s frequent flyer program. Therefore, this flight is ineligible for MileagePlus credit". I do not even have a mileage account with Air India to the best of my knowledge, but maybe I clicked something somewhere (pretty sure I did not). They do not have any option online to appeal this and get this sorted out. I have both the e-ticket and the boarding pass with me and will not dump them as they may need proof.

Appreciate any advice on how to sort this.

The first step would be to determine what account the credit when to, only AI can answer that.

You might also try check if AI created an account for you -- go to the AI site and do a lost username / password reset using the email that was on the ticket.

It is very, very difficult to get a credit changed from one carrier's program to another carrier's program.

Not sure what's going on, but your description has passing resemblance to the one described here:
https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...h-claimed.html
It seems the resolution entailed an email to [email protected] -- maybe worth a read and a try.

Per the AI website, there may be a few contact options to try (in order of importance):
  1. Missing Miles / Retro Credit on AI: [email protected]
  2. General Enquires: [email protected]
  3. Missing Miles / Retro Credit on Star Partners : [email protected]
I'd recommend starting with the first email address and then wait a couple days (remember they're a day or so ahead of us) to see how they respond.

I've had a similar issue happen to my colleague 2 months ago although it was with a SK/LO itinerary where the LO portions got credited correctly but the SK portions weren't. For him it was critical since he was literally 500 miles away from re-qualifying to Gold for 2019 and he took that flight at the end of December. Short story long: he filed the missing mile request 14 days after taking the flight (as before) and received a similar error. I told him to wait a week and try again. When he did that the system was able to "find" the missing miles. Knowing AI and other * partners, it may very well be the case also that you need to wait longer than the 14 days UA suggests for UA to see the missing miles!

Hope that helps!

Safe Travels,

James

I had a similar experience several years ago.
I flew Brussels Airlines IAD-BRU-LIN.
I got zero credit for the IAD-BRU (longhaul, naturally, the one that matters!) flight. But DID get credit for the BRU-LIN flight.
So I submitted a missing mileage request, and was denied, with United explaining that records indicate that I no-showed for the flight.
I replied via the appropriate channel that I clearly HAD shown up for the flight, since it was the third of four legs, all others of which I had taken AND received mileage credit for.
And that's when I heard that sound.... of silence...

So, between that, Dr Dao, and a few other things, I quit flying UA.
And I came out way ahead.
UA can keep their lousy 4000 miles.

Not getting credit for segments on LH

Took 4 segments on Lufthansa recently. Tried to get credit on UA, UA asked me to submit my boarding passes, which I did. UA said LT said I had already received credit for the miles on LT (obviously false, I don’t have an account with LT). After submitting boarding passes and still not getting credit, United said I need to submit a copy of the ticket receipt. This sounds like a bunch of BS - why would a copy of the ticket receipt convince LT to credit the miles when the boarding passes wouldn’t? Wanted to check if other folks have had this experience or any advice. Thanks.

Did you try the online retro-credit feature on united.com? You will need your ticket numbers indeed as well as booking class and seat number. What does the BP show in terms of FQTV#? Does it say LH**** or UA*****

Generally not a problem with LH either; sounds like something by someone was entered incorrectly. Was the is a UA ticket or a LH ticket?

Welcome to flyertalk!

What fare class were your tickets, and from whom did you purchase them (e.g., Lufthansa, United, travel agency)? Some tickets are not eligible, such as award tickets obviously.

Note that "LT" is not a standard shorthand for Lufthansa, "LH" is the generally recognized one.

sannmann Sep 18, 2021 2:59 pm

I think you mean LH. “Luft” is the German Word for “Air.” Hansa isn’t really a word but connotes a “league,” like the historic Hanseatic League. Lufthansa is a compound noun that sort of means “Air League” or “airline.” I’ve found their service pretty good. They are the national airline of the Federal Republic of Germany. Germany is a NATO partner and close ally of the United States.

It sounds like you purchased a ticket plated on Lufthansa stock. Your ticket probably starts with the numbers 220. United’s request for a copy of the receipt will help them research the issue of the missing miles.

WineCountryUA Sep 18, 2021 3:02 pm

If LH says the flights have been credit to LH M&M, you are hosed until you are able to get LH to change that response. Especially if the tickets were purchased from LH.

Ask LH what account it was credited to?
And how it was creditted to LH if you have no account.

LH has to approve the crediting of the flights to UA -- not an unilateral UA decision (except in very rare cases).

To you base questions, this very uncommon. This is not going to be an easy, fast resolution and if UA is will to go to bat for you, give them anything they ask for.

SPN Lifer Sep 18, 2021 4:58 pm

And stress to UA that you do not have a frequent flyer account with LH.

This. And it would be difficult and time consuming to have LH reverse the credit and reposting it to UA.

Good luck to the OP.
