GS PP for 1k/PP
 
I recently asked a friend with GS to apply PP on my upcoming flight.
Surprisingly when checking the upgrade list (72+ hours prior) I see my self in PZ instead of PN.

From what I remember it used to be that if GS apply PP to anyone they will be in PN instead of PZ, am i correct?
Did something change?

This happens often.

Upgrades using GS PP got cleared to PZ instead of PN.

His upgrade cleared, I think.

It sounds like it. I imagine if there’s a sweep, and the PNs were used up, he’d fall into PZ.

There shouldn't be a situation where PZ is available but PN isn't as those fare buckets are partially tied to one another (ie, can't have PZ space unless PN space also exists).

I guess it's from looking at the reservation details after clearing. The upgrade list doesn't show PZ vs PN.

Language in the OP is confusing, though, so maybe it's something else.

This is simply not possible, as others have noted, since the upgrade list doesn't show booking class. Unless you clarify (including flight detail) no one can provide a meaningful answer.

On reservation page of UA App, you will see booking class after clicking "Flight details." I think that OP was referred to this info.
Since PN > PZ, it is weird that OP was cleared onto PZ space. Nevertheless, if we see more data points, we may have to guess what has been changed for the upgrade priority, for example, GS with own PP to PN, others with GS's PP to PZ (but still ahead of 1K PP in the priority order). We will find out what is cooking at UA HQ regarding the PP upgrade priority.

Yes, obviously you can see booking class in the reservation. But without further information (including flight details), any answer here is just sheer speculation. Of course it's common to see lengthy debates on FT based on absolutely nothing but speculation but that's not really my cup of tea.

I have this happening numerous times, all at the gate or on the same day of departure.

My own upgrades cleared to PZ instead of PN. Same thing when I sponsored upgrades for others.

I think when PZ=PN=0, the agent or the system just didn't distinguish between PZ and PN on the day of departure.
