I hadn't visited this thread for a while despite being one of the (relatively early) former photo uploaders.. Nice to see the progress. I routinely avoid IAD given the chance to use the PL at EWR or ORD and it will be nice to have it as an option.
I know we dont have access to full blueprints, but a few things of the build-out come to mind: 1) Given the future baggage project on ground level, I wonder how much "cost share" they got from IAD - it seems there's the chance and timing to do some work for that while digging and building anyway. This project seemed to have started spontaneously, and I dont think we heard much warning about it and many of us had just assumed it might never happen.. 2) The alignment of floors is interesting. Mostly though because of the proximity to existing window panels. Like the panel at the top of the escalator going down and which we see many photo updates. I cant imagine that window wall is going to stay there when the project is done, and I cant imagine the windows would "look out" to a concrete wall. Anyone know more about this? 3) A few people asked about the concrete construction at the far end of the photos. At first I thought it might be an elevator shaft, but it looks to just be a stairwell for, perhaps, emergency access? But - I see nothing else that looks like a shaft so presume there will be no elevator.. If so, thats kind off surprising given accessibility issues. Thus, there must be a ramp in the plans somewhere (even though all we see in the schematics is the grey adjacent entrance hallway. Maybe it is upward sloping? Safe travels.. |
Food sucks @ United's new Dulles IAD Polaris Lounge
I just got a call from my colleague, who is flying out of Dulles (IAD) later tonight on business class on UA 932 at gate C4 for Frankfurt (FRA).
First, she said that there was no TSA Pre this evening near UA's counter 4. Second, she reported that the food for biz class passengers was the worse that she has experienced: some candies, a less than fresh carrot and a banana, So I said that although I didn't think it was open yet, that she should see if there was a Polaris Lounge nearby, because I've heard that it is supposed to be nicer than than the United Club. She replied that she is in the Polaris Lounge. UA 932 departs at 23:05 and serves dinner, but she hasn't eaten all day and she didn't want to wait or eat that late. |
wildyorkie The Polaris Lounge is still under construction at IAD until 2020, and there is only a single Polaris lounge in each of the hubs that have them open so far (EWR, SFO, IAH, ORD, LAX) so there wouldn't be any Polaris lounge "nearby"
She was no doubt in a regular United Club. |

But the second-hand report from lost people that the food is horrible when the IAD Polaris lounge opens next year might keep the crowd down :) |
I was as surprised as you when she told me that she was in the Polaris Lounge, because I thought it was not yet open.
Regardless, I told her to go to the nearby United Club. She said the food was just as bad. |
