Increase prices to Mexico

Hello all,
I am trying to book a few trips in October/November to Mexico (CUN, PVR, ACA) all leaving from SAN. All the flights are around $800-1000 on Y. Usually the prices are 350-600, especially if it is not a busy weekend. Anyone has any idea on why prices are so high and a guesstimate if they will come down in the upcoming months.
Thanks for the advice

Been that way for a while. I am looking to go to MEX and the difference between Y and F was $200 for my flights.

No one is going to Asia or Europe, everyone is going to Hawai'i, Mexico, Caribbean, Central America, ...

Look at rental / lodging prices in those locations.

Hotel lodging is very reasonable for all locations. Also, same date to PVR on a nonstop with AS is $350 vs $900 with UA (with 1 stop)

Mexico was banned today from increasing service to the US (just keeping existing service) - that might play into pricing.

I must have mis-understood the thread in the DL forum. I thought that only applied to Mexican airlines.

Then this is a really easy decision.

Yes that's just Mexican airlines and shouldn't have anything to do with current pricing anyway as it was just announced. It really does seem to be a combination of lower supply and higher demand, flights are extremely full. Also, airlines may be reticent right now to sell many low fares in advance until they get a clearer picture of what the demand will look like post summer. So, to answer your question, yes they COULD drop in price, and there would be some logic behind it, but demand could keep up, europe could reopen so airlines use excess capacity there, and in that case maybe prices don't go down.

Thanks that makes sense

With CBX so close, it would be crazy to pay those prices for Y from SAN. You could probably get J in AM for much less. TIJ-MEX has been in the $200 range lately for AM in J. UA leaves a lot to be desired when traveling from the west coast to just about anywhere south of IAH.

A testament to the shackles of Mileage Plus that you even have to think about the decision. A mediocre product at almost 3 times the price of a better product. Free yourself......life is short, make it easier.

LOL! Definitely not an option in this case, will definitely go with AS for the price. But it was more about the reason behind the really high prices with UA

It does. Any capacity increases to Mexico to/from the US will need to be from US airlines.

Cross Border Xpress (CBX) is a bridge exclusively for Tijuana International Airport (TIJ) passengers who cross the border between United States and Mexico.

TIJ offers significant competition to UA at SAN, especially for those who live in the southern part of the metropolis.

Mexico prices have been INSANE from IAH. $600 r/t Basic Economy to Monterrey (a 45-minute RJ), for example. Not sure what United is attempting but many people I know have started flying the Mexico LCCs (Viva, Volaris) due to UA’s pricing.
