I received another 500 PQP in the middle of the credit card cycle, so my takeaway is that you get the PQP as soon as you hit the next $12k spend threshold, and Chase is actively sending that data over to UA.

I really wish there was a definitive answer on this. I'm less than 500 PQP from making 1K and can't see a pattern for billing cycle/payment PQP awards posted. I had some large purchases in Aug/Sep and the remaining spend this year isn't expected to be another $12k. I've already bought up some flights and an accelerator and don't want to have to do more if I don't have to.

My billing cycle closes the 17th.

I have autopay (from my bank) setup for a fixed amount but often go adjust that before it's sent, and also frequently just (additionally) pay down the full balance instead of only the statement balance, often in 2 payments (I pay from the chase web/app when checking the balance).

So here's a recent breakdown of awards and payments since May/June. I haven't seen anything post yet on the Oct payments, so it almost seems it's awarded when you hit the spend threshold, not when you pay the balances, which doesn't seem plausible unless they claw back an unpaid balance.

YTD payments just under $60K

Date PQP Award
6/30/2022 500
8/11/2022 500
9/27/2022 500
9/29/2022 500

Date Payment
6/21/2022 5,000.00
7/15/2022 5,000.00
8/12/2022 8,634.92
9/16/2022 6,004.26
9/19/2022 6,004.26
10/14/2022 6,156.04
10/18/2022 6,162.93

Paying the card statement / balance payments has nothing to do with the bonus. The bonus is based on purchased spend and when you cross the threshold for that,

correct

This is clearly stated here, "Spend" is the criteria and has been that way for decades.

OK, thanks.

I guess I'll be buying more FC upgrade offers and/or accelerators. It may be fruitless trying to use the PP, but I want that 1K! ;-)

As far as "clearly stated," I only see "spend" but no definition of when that's counted. I still have a difficult time believing UA will give me PQP if I go buy a car with my card and haven't yet paid the balance.

I do appreciate your response nonetheless.

Chase (and UA) will be perfectly happy with you having an unpaid balance and paying their usurious interest rates, that where they make their money. This has worked this way since purchase spend PQMs was introduced well before the merger, back in the early 2000's -- always has been purchase spend.

I just got a spend bonus and I have not yet paid that statement

I’ve never understood the timing or paid attention. I was close to 1K this year so bought a couple of inexpensive (less expensive?) FC upgrades for my usual DEN-ORD flights in December. Looked yesterday and received an additional 1,000 PQP from credit card spend at once. I definitely didn’t have a $24,000 spend in one month.

completely negates the need to purchase upgrades but I guess those flights in December will be in F and 1K. I won’t complain.

Thanks for the additional comments, I'll just have to work on the spend a little harder.

Just checked my annual spend and I'm closer to the next threshold than I thought. Lessee, car could use new snow tires, wife's dental work, and 2 more months of spending incl Christmas. Should get there easily. Just bought a (small) paid upgrade for my next (short) flight as I wasn't going to get a CPU. If the return leg price goes down to something reasonable, that alone will probably put me over (incl future flights already purchased).
