I'll stick with UA mainly because, while, like many others, my travel habits (just over 100,000 miles but in the mid-30s for segments) would probably drop me down to Silver, I'll mercifully be hitting MM status in Jan. or Feb. I'm just sad my partner will only have a year to enjoy 1K status before he, like me, gets kicked down to gold. The sad thing is that due to an expected number of business trips this year, I'm well over 150,000 in just around 54 segments. While I'm too lazy to calculate my spend, there's a chance that if my next year's travel were like this (it won't be), I'd eek out another year of 1K before I lose my GPUs/Polaris, preboarding, and free tapas boxes. At least I ended up with 8 GPUs for next year (and got an op-up and a freebie upgrade so my last two years of 1K will have had 8 Polaris flights each).
I will say that this is liberating in the sense that each year I've carefully planned flights so I hit thresholds (50k, then 75k, and the last few years 100k). Having no chance of 1k ever again means there's no point in worrying about it. I can spend down my miles before they become worthless and just enjoy BG1 and lounge access until they take that away from those with MM status. |

In the meantime I am making the most of enjoying non-UA flight experiences..... ;) |

Your reservation on non UA ticket is showing up in your UA account with estimated PQP?

i've been doing both UA and AS, but with me hitting 75K on AS for 2020, i will change most, if not all to AS domestically.

So what yields more PQPs, a non 016 ticket with all segments on non-UA metal or a non-016 ticket with one or more UA segments, including possibly a TATL or TPAC on UA metal?
If I understand it correctly, UA would calculate miles time class bonus divided by 5 or 6 for all non-UA segments. But for UA segments on that ticket, it would know the approximate PQD/PQP so it wouldn't calculate the award miles divided by 5 or 6 for that segment. If it does this mixture of calculations, does that mean on a non-016 ticket that it would calculate some segments dividing by 5 and some segments divided by 6? |

Staying with United...
I no longer travel but 2-3 times per year. As a 1MM, I have lifetime Gold which is sufficient. I purchase first class tickets when I travel or use miles that I have accumulated. None of the other benefits are important to me. Even when I was a 1K and GS I didn’t rely on United for upgrades but rather purchased first most trips. The GS benefit of protection during irregular operations is the only benefit I used when I had that status. I rarely used the system wide upgrades or regional upgrades that were given for about 10 years. All in all these changes don’t affect me much.

Offically Dumping UA?
How many people have officially dumped UA due to the new requirements? I did - reluctantly. I suppose I could have hit 1k next year but I am becoming worried that I am investing my loyalty with a company that pretty much hates us it appears.
So, how many have officially moved on? Anyone else? I guess I am curious if UA will actually see any significant consequences for their choices. Mods - if this fits somewhere else please move. I take no offense. :) |
I have not dumped anyone. I will continue to fly the airline that is most convenient, and E+ gives the edge to United when it's a close call.
Having the MM status and not caring about annual status is very liberating. |

UA doesn't hate anyone. It wants more of your $ (or other people's $ spent on your behalf). It's a simple transaction between carrier and passenger, much like most other carriers. For me, I have never had affiliation to a single carrier. It helps by living in a city where all three US legacies use as their hubs, plus rows of non-US carriers. I fly based on schedule and pricing. Never had emotions or attachments to any single carrier. |
