Government restrictions preventing flights taking off and landing (SFO-SIN)

Waiting on UA29...delayed due to government restrictions for flight takeoffs and landings

New reason for me...

New in the sense that it's only been around for 60 years or so. FAA speak for "security"

It's in the computer as a curfew... that doesn't really make any sense so I'm guessing a typo.

Code:
0029/17JUL
F SFO/ETD 1200P L00.35 AIRPORT CURFEW
F SIN/ETA 654P L00.09

SKED SFO ORIG 1125A GTD 98 SHIP 3952
      SIN 645P TERM 1 GTA ****

Looks like it's due to the airport curfew in Singapore?

That would be a 'government restriction', wouldn't it?

SIN has a curfew?

edit: Actually I believe I misread, but does SFO have a curfew?

I don't see any operational issues with SFO or SIN at the moment, and usually it's coded as ATC if it's something like an airspace closure due to a special event.

FA just shared she thinks it is because of tailwinds as we land at the same time. Why United posted the strange government restriction notification is bizarre.

Well, they code all mechanical defects as "weather" to avoid compensation, so this would be in line with that process.

That isn't true. Can we please stop spreading it as though it were?

I have been on plenty of delayed UA flights, and I don't recall a single time that they were dishonest about the reason. And their "compensation" -- really, customer service gestures -- are so haphazard that I really doubt it would make any difference anyway.

At least 95% of the time, when somebody posts on FT about how UA was "lying" about their delay, it turned out that either (a) the customer was basing their "weather" information on looking out the window, or (b) there were multiple reasons for the delay and UA wound up acknowledging all of them.

When I read it for the third time (doing quite well today ), I noticed that the ETD associated with the supposed curfew was 12p, so that is another giveaway for miskey.

Not to mention a scheduled arrival ~7pm.

I think SIN very strictly slots arrivals. I bumped into this on LAX-SIN; that flight was frequently delayed up to an hour for this reason.

I have seen this on several flights to SIN. On one flight, the captain said that SIN does not like flights to arrive early so we had to delay our departure since the flight plan was shorter than usual.
