Issues with some Dreamliners engines? (But not UA's?)
Just read this - sounds like Dreamliners can’t do trans Oceanic flights as of today??

UA's webpage says that they use GE engines on the 787-8 and 787-9:
https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con...0/default.aspx
Propulsion: Two General Electric GEnx engines.

Yes, the RR-engined 787s have been causing quite the headache for NZ though.

Pretty sure the Trent 1000 story is last week's news. But UA's 787s are GEnX powered so no restriction to either ETOPS or overall operations.

Thanks
i read that the engines were made by 3 different manufacturers - but they meant the RR was being built in 3 different factories? I read it as 3 different companies - including GE. Sorry.

No, you still misunderstood. The 3 different engines that had problems by 3 different manufacturers are RR Trent 1000 (B787), CFM International's CFM 56-7B (Southwest's B737), and GE's CF6-80C (AA's B767).

Also, I'm not sure if UA dispatches the 787 beyond 180 min ETOPS at the moment.

Hopefully thread-title will be modified by mods to reflect that this is NOT effecting United in the sense of grounding planes.

As UA is not involved, will close the thread (with modified title).

UA Affected by 787 Engine Issues?
What it says on the tin. I'm not enough of an aviation geek to know who picked which engine option(s), so does anyone know if UA went with the Rolls Royce option that is suddenly on the "naughty list"?
