Just 1 data point: flew HNL-LAX 2/3/18 - had the nice pillow/duvet in First. YMMV.

I thought it was okay for the 9am outbound and 2:30pm return but that should be the minimum. I would be real disappointed with one of those thin blue blankets.

Don't get used to it! Based on the complete removal of pillows from continental redeyes, I imagine these are examples of lucking into slow changes rather than counterexamples disproving cost cuts.

Bunched up my jacket (cowboy style, w/o the saddle) for use as something to keep my head elevated, when made into a bed.
(Btw, got little ravioli's (approx 6 or 7) on the first one, and a dry, over done, hamburger on the second, for dinner)

2 RPU's well spent, so I am NOT in any way complaining, just commenting!

Just checked today's #665 flight, and it's not a 757-200, so perhaps that's the reason that every plane gets the same non-stuff???

The flights to Las Vegas are marketed as domestic First. EWR-LAX/SFO (formerly ps) are marketed as Business and get the Polaris pillows and duvet as a matter of course. Domestic First lie-flats, at times, have been catered with Polaris pillow and duvets, but not always. Hawaii lie-flats, up to now, have had the pillow and duvet fairly regularly. I'll be disappointed to see the disappear.

I'm flying a 752 and 777 Saturday IAH-SFO-HNL. It'll be interesting to see what shows up (or doesn't).

EWR-LAS isn't a PS route... unless if you meant EWR-LAX?

757-200 with "LIE" FLATS with NO pillows EWR-LAS.

Does it need to be called PS to get one, and something better than a hamburger/cheeseburger?:confused:I

I used RPU"s so I really don't care, as I slept most of the way, using my jacket as a pillow!

When I asked, the FA apologized and gave me 2 extra blankets. It isn't their fault, I might add, but UA is really getting super chintzy, imo!!!

I fly ORD-SFO quite a bit and until the middle of last year, they provided the Saks blankets and pillows on the lie-flat Hawaii-config 777s. A big disappointment when those were pulled, it makes the lie flats much less comfortable. Perhaps it's because too many are being stolen. Also, see: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unit...lankets-5.html

I hear you. These cut backs are alarming especially when UA showed record profit recently. You would think UA would reinvest in improving its product and offering to compete, but it is all about shareholder returns. I am not saying it is right or wrong but I do wonder about the long term strategy.

I am not ditching UA. GS does come with some benefits worth continue to fly UA. However, now as a lifetime GS, I have been booking SQ, OS and LX for J travel and W fares on UA w/GPUs so far that I am projecting I may come under $12K PQD for the year based on Q1 spent so far.

I thought really hard about 1k again this year, but I decided the 6 GPUs were just valuable enough to go again. I am a lowly Lifetime Gold 1MM ( :D ), so if I decide to jump ship entirely, there is a bit of a cushion.

But I am certainly very less "sticky" with UA now, as you appear to be also. It really is like groundhog day with United. They show signs of promise, but we keep ending up on the cycle of cuts.

BOG-IAH last week, 0115 departure, no amenity kit, water, pillow, or blanket - surprised me. The trip down from IAH-BOG didn't have anything either.

That has always been the standard on IAH-BOG. It's just United Business, not Polaris (nor BF before that). Poor step-sister route.

When I wrote in to 1K Voice Feb 1st, to complain about the lack of any amenities, on the red-eye from LIH to SFO, I was told "its not a Polaris" flight. So that means? First class is just United Business and therefore just a step up from E+? Maybe they are trying out the new Upgraded Economy Plus class?

EWR-LAS is marketed as domestic “First”, no matter what the plane is. You were just lucky to get a lie-flat plane for that particular departure. The minimum catering is domestic First catering. Polaris catering is route-dependent, not plane-dependent. Hopefully that clarifies things a bit.

That's interesting, appreciate the clarification. For some reason I thought that all international business was "Polaris", regardless of the cabin, and that the old term had been fully retired. I guess it's a good thing the IAH Polaris lounge isn't open yet, or I would have been arguing for access without warrant ;)

I'm still surprised about the amenity kit and water though, as United Business always used to have that, AFAIK.

"BusinessFirst" had an amenity kit. "United Business" is the term UA uses for shorter haul international flights, including Mexico, Caribbean, and Central America. Those routes have never gotten the enhanced "BusinessFirst" or "Polaris" service levels. Service levels are described here: https://www.united.com/web/en-US/con.../business.aspx

You may be recalling CO, which IIRC did provide a small amenity kit on latin america routes.

Do these changes also impact South America flights that are listed as Polaris service?

No, the UA routes to Rio, Santiago, B.A, etc do not see the domestic F or Int'l Business cut-backs or inconsistencies. They experience the Polaris cut-backs and inconsistencies.

What are Polaris cutbacks? No mattress pad and no wine flights?

Just an update. IAH-SFO 752 last Saturday had no pillow/duvet. SFO-HNL 772 same day had pillow, duvet, and both engine cowlings.
