I once got a $20 IRROPS food voucher ex-DEN on a P-fare as a general member.

What is the logic behind this? GS/1K don't pay more for their F tickets than other elites or kettles. And everyone's meal costs UA the same. Either $10 is adequate or it isn't adequate. Given the prices at airport food stands, I think it would be difficult to replace a full F meal with $10.

I have no idea what the logic is. I was just reporting what I've seen and read. $10 may not replace a full meal, but the ETCs that have been reported on this thread should make up for the difference. I think they're just running their usual "customer needs a comp meal" process that they use during cancellations / extended mechanical delays / etc.

Personally, I prefer airport food to airplane food in nearly every circumstance, and I usually don't take the meal anyway. I'd take a $10 voucher every time, if given the option. :)

I'm flying out of Denver tomorrow(to IAD to connect to BRU). When did any of you get the notice about the food ?

LarryJ Oct 30, 2017 10:02 am

We (pilots) received a message about the Denver catering problems a few days ago but it didn't provide any details on the cause. It told us that they would be attempting to cater the DEN departures from the airplane's inbound station.

It's my home airport. I met someone who works at Elway's on the airport train in on Sat who told me to use her name there and I also have the Priority Pass Timberline restaurant deal to use. Lots of options- I just wanted to be aware. After my last few domestic First meals, I would much rather have a voucher to use in the airport.

If this is indeed related to the veggie recall I don't see why UA just doesn't say that. No shame on them, they didn't do anything wrong and actually took action to not serve recalled product. That's a good thing.

I've gone to Timberline twice now. Good food!
Elway's is just crazy expensive and not quick. But it is very good quality. I offered up suggestions for more grab-and-go options that you could take on board.

Woody Creek is my favorite. My favorite is the Woody Club sandwich. Works well for taking along and eating on the airplane.

When I have more time I'll often go to City Wok.

I was wondering how these catering disturbances affect crew meals out of DEN? Those are the last people I would want to either: go hungry, or; get food poisoning!

I got the notice for my flight today, but it was not a big deal. I am coming back through Wednesday and then onto DC, I'll make sure to get my favorite To Go choices from Elways (I've got their number on speed dial). I have no problem being the guy in F who brings on a Filet with plastic knives. Its a long enough flight, I'll have to get the ding dong to go as well.

We don't get meals of every flight. It is based on factors including report time, duty period length, flight length, and length of break between flights. If the scheduled meals aren't available then we can buy a replacement meal and expense it.

Just flew out of DEN in FC and there was no catering. In First it was a Bistro burger or Chicken Sandwich. They said there is a problem with the United kitchen but nothing more.

DELee Oct 30, 2017 7:20 pm

For those transiting DEN, any issues with the UC food at either club as well?

David
