Wasn't it Atlas who leased a 744 from UA, and used it for military charters, then returned it to UA with an oddball livery?

Both the 747 and 757 were subject to this AD.

Yes, it had the circa 2000 configuration as well, 14F/73C/301(?)Y. UA then continued to use it for charters for a few more years then retired it.

I bought 2 tags myself. Excellent screen name, too! I flew N198UA once, on 20 Oct 2004 as UA852 NRT-SFO in my much beloved seat 17A

She was retired way too young.

Here's two photos of a 747 (not sure the tail) bringing itself into Gate 74 at LAX on November 9, 2012 at 10:40 AM I just found in my collection:

Given the blue winglet on my craft, I'm assuming I was on a 752 going LAX-IAH.

Beautiful Tulip.

Someone versed in the bts website could find the tail number based on your info

The nose number looks like 8475 which corresponds to N175UA.

I believe it’s N179UA. There is a little mark shown between the “T” and “E” and the nose number looks line “8479” and this pic seems to confirm N179UA had a mark there around that time (it’s dirt)

Now that I look at the nose # on my laptop, vs. my phone, I believe you are correct.

Found a bunch of 747 shots from UA when searching for images potentially of interest for United Employee Needs Your Help (light hearted).

FWIW, in that thread, I posted an image and path for a fairly grand portrait shot of a 747: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/32321095-post21.html

For this thread, I thought I'd post a few images that UA has queued up on hub.united.com in what they've currently labeled as "Retired 747": https://hub.united.com/newsroom-medi...red-boeing-747

A page snapshot of the three images + some of the Farewell Flight are posted as follows:

And here are the three shots - anyone recognize the coastline in this first shot?
